I flummoxed, the server looks to me empty every time I look, and it won't let me join it anyway. Is there a lockout or password. I'm on dial-up from Australia is that the problem???

Well I'm really flummoxed this time, I have been trying to join through ASE and get server full or unresponsive or some such, then I get in, but server is empty, leave and then see people there so go to join to get message server full or unresponsive in a little grey box , on bottom it saves force connect so try and then I crash to desktop. This is frustrating to say the least. Has your server got some parameter to stop high pings maybe?, if not I don't know what I have to do to join.
I did a google search and finally found cheating-death client 440. Joined the server but I didn't notice more or less then 10 to 14 players on this 18 player server. I don't recall seeing the server "full". There could have been a high ping kick plugin but I honistly don't know.
I had quite a bit of fun but strangely enough, after 4 or 5 rounds, I never got to command even once, let alone, was I able to join the marine team.

sorry, we should have perhaps mentioned a note or two about Cheating-Death, which can be found and downloaded from the good folks at <a href='http://www.unitedadmins.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.unitedadmins.com/</a> -- for those who aren't familiar with it, it's a very small utility that you just need to have running in the background (you can hide it in your system tray and not be bothered by it) in order to stay connected on any servers enforcing it. These servers will usually put something like "CD Required" or "C-D Req" in their server names as a courtesy to let you know ahead of time. We like running them on our servers to keep the riff-raff out! and to keep everyone honest. i think yeah, probably removing it for New Player Night might be a good idea, but then again, what better training than to just see if you can at least connect!
Look forward to seeing some new players on our "OM" server next Tuesday night (or any night of the week for that matter!), as Owl said, starting at 7pm PST (GMT +0800) and continuing until whenever, should some players show, that is...

Also if you really want to get some help come into our IRC channel on irc.gamesnet.net, #oldfogies. If no ones around try either of those and you probably find someone to come and help. Sandman, I think we're discontinuing Thursdays unless you do one of the things above to get our help. Try tuesday next week and you'll have better luck. Hopefully, one of us remembers while Nite goes away. He's the guy that actually remembers things that we have planned and reminds the other fogies usually.

BTW how do you get your server to show high ping when searched but then run 50 ms silky smooth while playing on it? Plug-in?

yesterday was a mild success, we had i think 2 players who needed pointers, the one who wanted to learn comm kept getting disconnected due to hardware issues.
and yes, i have NO idea why it pings high in some game browsers but is super smooth in game. i don't do that on purpose. if you live on the westcoast/BC you'll get sub 50 pings. but i think it turns out as 150 pings in ASE or something?
