There IS a way of playing NS with CS retail. I think MonsE has the specifics of it.

I still don't know why people would but retail cs intead of HL and download cs for free. I mean, with the latter you get the great singleplayer campaign also. And more compatibility.

Some people bought CS retail as a result of peer pressure to play it, only then realizing what a dumb decision they made by not getting HL.

You can play with CS retail as well.

But if you had to ask, you probably don't have the brains neccesary to play such a complex mod! Just kidding! If you are like me, then retail CS is just as good a choice as Half Life. Full mod support, and no need to dload cs. I didnt like HL single player much.

I hope NS has a CS-Retail friendly installer. FLF doesn't D: and it's hell trying to get someone to figure out where to cut and paste files over AIM or the phone (usually they're computer-illiterate too D:!!&#33

I liked it. I thought it was fun. And scary as frickin hell in parts.

Yes indeed. I sometimes download singleplayer mods to try and recreate the way I felt playing HL the first time through. Poke646 was the only one that came close so far; I hope NightWatch comes even closer.

USS Darkstar wasn't bad (though the "rats" part blew)... definitely some of the most effective headcrab use I've ever seen. There was another, too, but I forget what it was called. Set shortly after Black Mesa, your enemy was a renegade scientist.

Play AvP. (It's scarier than the second, IMHO... because it's darker than black cubed.)

If NS ever gets put on Steam, I think you won't need Half-Life.... That's what Steam does, right? Let's you play some Half-Life mods without Half-Life... right?

Scary game?

You want to play a scary game?

You want to see something REALLY scary.

Play System Shock 2.

I am a psychologist with 21 years of games playing behind me.

I am also a BIG film buff.

System Shock 2.

Go play it. Understand what makes a good game. Understand art. Understand why Deus Ex is pretentious crap. Shh. No, shh. Don't argue. Go play. There, don't you see? I knew you'd see. Good boy.

Yes, system shock 2 is one of the greatest games ever in my opinion. I have a real soft spot for rpgish FPS's such as deus ex. This is easily one of the most atmosphereic and well-designed games ever. I recommend this too anyone.

Maybe I have ADD or something but I just couldn't get into System Shock 2, maybe I just didn't give it enough time.

Dude, just now I was playing SS2 as the OSA class, and it's just as fun as the marine class. Some of these psi powers are rewt. And the little ones... they are so helpless... we will protect them no matter what. You cannot comprehend the glory of The Many...

Join us.

yeah SS2 is mad. But AVP was pretty damn scary as the marine. Not as much as a predator because there isnt as much threat of dying, but with the marine, u just start hearing little 'bloop.. bloop.. bloop. bloop, bloop bloop!' and u rip out your pulse rifle and back into a corner as 12 aliens charge out of vents at you!!!

It was pretty disappointing that in ss2 you never actually meet anyone... It makes you feel more alone, but it would be nice if you could have a helper for 5 mins, before they get ripped to shreads by a maintanence robot...
Speaking of robots, a scary moment that comes to mind - you try to use a broken elevator and hear the Xerxes system say "Elevator broker, a maintenance team is on the way" then you run cause u know a robot is coming to kill you with a fusion welder!

I usually play as the hacker tho, good for gettin lots of ammo n stuff...
Another good point was that it had co-op, so u can enjoy it with some mates!

ah System Shock 2. the name brings back memories (even though i only bought it earlier this year ). i'd have to say without a doubt one of the MOST atmospheric games of all time (next to the thief series of course). one of my favourite moments was on the recreational deck. fantastic moody areas, sounds & lighting on that floor and it didnt help my pants that i was playing at 3am in the morning.
of course, the cargo bay on level 2 never fails to make ss2 newcomers jump a little. damn monkeys!

*sigh* alas, the developers of these wonderful games Looking Glass went outta business a few years back. although apparently most of them are now working with Ion Storm on Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 *joy!*
