Why Steam?

A lot of people are wondering why they should upgrade to Steam.
Two words... WIDE SCREEN.
I can now run NS at 1920x1200 widescreen resolution... And I have to say that it's damn beautiful!
I'll admit though, that this is the first time I've seen the HL engine slow down. My FPS dropped considerably once I went to widescreen and switched to 32 bit color.
I'm getting about 20-25 FPS consistently throughout the game on my XP2000+ and GF4 Ti4200...

Steam has ruined HL for me and I have uninstalled both. I wont be able to play one of my most favorite games just because valves little experiment.
I think ill just stick with kali, sides, I prolly won't be playing NS much once the new games come out over the next 2-3 months....unless of course NS upgrades to HL2

HL2 uses Steam too, unless the people at VALVe come to their senses.
So Steam stolded yuor megahurtz such that you can't play HL off the same old CD you were before? Or are you just being angsty?
I hear so many people whine about STEAM, yet I'm able to play without STEAM.
Either there's a lot of stupid players out there (likely) or my computer has found some mystical way around mandatory updating (unlikely).
If you hate STEAM, reinstall HL and update to the last version before STEAM (1.1.0.0?). Even if STEAM is eventually a mandatory upgrade at least you'll be able to keep playing until then. Besides, I bet the only time it will be mandatory is when they fix most of the gamebreaking issues.
Let's pretend it's your job to push square pegs through square holes. One day you're given an updated round peg. It doesn't fit through the hole. Are you going to keep bashing your head against the wall over that round peg or are you going to smartly adapt and go back to using the square peg, since it works?
Stupid people are often angry because they lack the ability to adapt. :/
For what 2 more weeks? Then won gets taken down, so whats the point?
btw there is no need for hostile posts, please dont defend steam like its a member of your family.
Again, whats the point? 2 more weeks or playing then to only have it snatched away?

You sir win the "Darwinism of the month award"
www.steampowered.com 's forums are online; if you have issues with Steam, please take them there. Who knows; they might actually help you get Steam working, since their financial future sort of depends on it.
