Hmm I will remove it then. - Perhaps replacing with a null command should work? *oh and you have to put the command in another cfg file as the guide says :o
Refresh the guide page, the chanegd fix is there. Giving it a "null" bind means it will do nothing. Meaning IT WILL NOT CRASH!!! I have tested this myself and it works.
well... i left steam download ALL yesterday, and all night, a total of about 40 hours (yes, i stay awake way too long)... cs != finished, hl != finished...
sooo im downloading that 388mb file off some local servers, currently @ 5% with 3hours, 54minutes remaining. 25k/sec <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

GAHHHH THANSAL GOES SPAMTASTIC
if you constantly can't conect to steam REBOOT!!!!
aparently when you boot your comp it randomly chooses a steam server and sticks with it! (what a pos)
so reboot and hope for a better server <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Well this way people won't switch servers on whims and thus different servers won't be pinged unmercifully..
Anyhow, Beast, I followed your tut pretty much verbatim, stuck the ns folder under my e-mail, copied the fmod.dll to SteamApps, Half-Life, and tried it. Well Steam runs fine, I just don't see no third party area under Games. Any other ideas?
after i copy the NS folder and right click NS on the menu and launch it. i get the HL splash screen and then when im trying to look for servers the mod filter it nsCldmani???
*EDIT: Got it fixed. if u got tis problem do these stuff. Right click on ur Half-life game on MY GAMES and select Propertise. now click Launch Option. Now make sure there is nutting in that bar thing (if there is delete it). then click ok and that should fix that problem*
I haven't tried putting it in the config.cfg, since people keep saying that doesn't work...
But then I looked at the Steamified config.cfg in my "new" NS directory, and noticed this at the top: <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1--> // This file is overwritten whenever you change your user settings in the game. // Add custom configurations to the file "userconfig.cfg". <!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
And this at the bottom: <!--c1--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>CODE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='CODE'><!--ec1--> exec userconfig.cfg <!--c2--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--ec2-->
So I tried putting the alias line (To fix the error message) in userconfig.cfg. It works perfectly, and you don't have to manually exec a custom cfg file like the directions say... So just stick that alias in userconfig.cfg (Create it if you need to) and avoid the extra step.

for a sorta amusing thing:
if the 'games menu' borks in anyway shape or form a fairly consistant fix seems o be REBOOT! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
just reloading steam wont work, I think it requires a full reboot
as for the 'different servers won't be pinged unmercifully' umm, that make no real sense to me. Those servers are constantly spouting out info to steampowered.com
simply have them give you that info and let you switch to the server that works for you (remember distance matters)
I'm downloading the Steam/CS version right now on my sexeh 56k. But anyway, I was thinking about reinstalling HL and stuff to make sure everything has a fresh install before I try to get NS to work with Steam, and I need to know if you keep the same wonid when you reinstall HL (for reserved slot purposes).

wonID is generated from yuor CDkey as I remember <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I've had that problem too, I think it's a problem with the cache or somethign to do with steam servers. Don't know. Can't find a fix for it yet though :/

the more people getting a file, the faster the trasmit speeds (depending on a lot of different variables, but in general, when 40,000 people with cable and dsl modems are getting the file at once, it will spread litterally faster than your modem can support, i got the file at a constant 240kbps)
consider downloading a file from kazaa, the more sources you have, the better (assuming you dont get lucky and connect to someone who's at college sharing on a T3 line and only need once source)... bit torrent takes this to the extreme, all you need to know is <b>the more people the better</b>
yes thats true. the more people that r downloading (or uploading) the file the faster the transfer rate will be. but y don't they put a BitTorrent file on their site so it doesn't take that much bandwith from their server?
Hmm interesting about bittorrent, so all it's doing is spreading out the file of however much has been downloaded outta the set amount within the entire network. Nifty idea.
I done all this. followed all the Guides.. but.... My Right click menu is corrupted.. the text are all blocks.. i cant see what they say..... so... like.. WTH?
thanks to this guide, I can play steam NS with no problems, lost 30 pounds in weight and it removes the signs of ageing from my skin =3
seriously though, it works great combined with moving the missing sprites and doing that max error thingy. All we need now is a client with menus that aren't mucked up and away we steamingly go <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Damn, where the hell can I find the FMOD folder? I load up NS from the Third Party Game list, the generic HL screen comes up, then I get an Error, something like Cannot find FMOD file. Where is it? Don't say in the HL folder because I've checked all over it. Specific instructins on where to find this file please.

Grrgh, so I exited and somehow it deleted itself off of the config file.
I knew this would happen so the original poster of this "Fix" was a liar.

steam\steamapps\youremail\half-life\
It works like a half-life mod would only in steam...or something.
