In the middle of the night, I often wake up to the sound of my door shaking and jiggling... it gets pretty loud and will just shake for minutes violently.. When ever this happens i crawl under my bedsheets and huddle up so whoever come will hopefully shoot my pillow with his silenced usp instead of me...

Few times I've woken up to the sound of hissing and the sound of claws/ talons, raking against my carpet...Also sometimes the door to my never used basement opens repeatedly after I shut it again. And sometimes I hear cries in the night followed by a giggle and footsteps.

I've seen skulks =\

And other wierd shapes in the darkness, it gets creepy in my house with all the lights off... There are windows in most of the rooms, and there are trees right outside all the windows. So, the moonlight getting distorted by those leaves makes it really creepy

ooh... lesee...

The windows in the house make a howling sound when wind blows against them so it's good for watching scary stuff on a windy night =3

As for scaries, Imagine the scene; I was sitting alone in my house one very, dark and cold night. The rain hissed down from black clouds that loomed forebodingly in the sky and wind screamed against the windows in the house filling the otherwise smothering silence with it's low moans.
Anyways, I had to go answer the call of nature and most of the lights were out. I considered flicking the lights on but the deep growl of thunder rang out warning against it. So there I was, stumbling along in the dark, my eyes as wide as they'll go, hands blindly reaching into the eager darkness to find the rough walls of the house or any other guidance. After several minutes of sightless torture my eyes finally adjusted enough to let the sickly light that managed to penetrate the shrieking storm outside illuminate the hallway.
I started up the steps, my breaths coming short and heavy almost in time with my now dread-filled heart.
All of a sudden, a brilliant flash burst from the outside illuminating the staircase. Startled slightly, I look up without thinking to see the dark, slick carpace of the tooth-filled maw looking down at me from the ceiling; it's needle-like grin extending out from a skeletal chitinous body that looked like some freakish interpretation of death itself. That's right, I was staring up at one of the aliens from everyone's favourite films.
Suddenly I was plunged into darkness again, the lightning seeming to somehow having lasted for ages even though it had only been seconds.
My muscles locked in fear and my mind swirled telling myself it couldn't be real until finally self-preservation kicked in and sent me screaming back down the steps and back into the living room where I slammed the door and sat gibbering in fear for a good few minutes.

In the end there really was nothing ever there, but lets just say my imagination has always been a little better than I'd like to think is safe sometimes ^^;

I don't mean to hijack the topic for my own personal wants, but I wonder: If you imagine/see something horrific and frightening, do you either

a) run away scared off your nut

or

b) try and fight it away/kill it

?

Personally im b

One time, long time ago, I lived in an apartment complex , in which my sis and I shared a room with a bunkbead. One night, I woke up, looked around the room (a habit that I have that still hasn't gone away), and saw some guy just standing in the middle of the room, looking at the ceiling as if he was examining it. In just a few split seconds I decided that it wasn't my dad, and it wasn't anyone else thats normally in the house, and I quickly ducked under the blanket for a while, before daring to peek out again to see that nothing was there. Needless to say I was quite freaked for the rest of the night, and the next few nights following the incident.

For some reason the knob to my front door makes a lot of noise at night. It is the weirdest thing ever, it happens for a couple of seconds then it just goes away. I guess the dead need friends, too.

I was once up at like 4 am looking out my front window when a random car drove up into my driveway.
although I'm pretty sure the person in the car was more afraid than I was.

If its something that CAN be combatted, B.) But when I heard the hissing sound, coupled with claws scratching my carpet, I was a bit freaked.(dont own an animal that could make that sound)

if it's something that's scary because its dangerous then I tend to stand and fight, but if it's something scary because it's freakish and lethal (like seeing an alien in RL) then I tend to run like heck

Last week, I came downstairs, and there was a steaming poo on the carpet. It actually talked to me, screaming "I need flushing!"... alas I didn't have the tools to transport it to the necessary disposal area, so I had to leave it be grudgingly. The next day the doorbell chimed, it was Sanitation; sent by the city council. They took my house. I live in a cardboard hut now.

Scary stuff, eh?

At my old house, I was about 9 years old and my bedroom had a door that went outside of our house. Anyways, every night I could hear things scratching at it and the door would shake, even on the nights with no wind at all......

When I was little I stayed over at a friends house overnight. It was a good night and stuff and when we finally settled down the lights went out and we were both asleep in our sleeping bags.
At some point in the night though I woke up for no reason, I rubbed my little eyes and peered around my pitch black surroundings with an uncomfortable feeling of being watched crawling over me.
After a couple of moments trapped in a breathless silence I cast my gaze over to the open door and saw something in the creeping darkness of the hallway that filled me with more fear than anything I've ever felt; 2 glowing orbs stared back at me from the end of it.
The green, pupiless eyes seemed to rise as if aware I'd spotted them and moved forward a little before stopping. My mind raced.
I tried to think of anything it could be except some horrible demon from the dark recesses of my overactive imagination but came up blank.
My friend didn't have any pets she'd ever told me about or that I'd seen and there was no way the thing watching me squirm from down the hall was even remotely human.
I feverishly poked my friend and whispered 'hey... hey!!!', never taking my eyes off the watcher in the darkness but she didn't murmur or even stir, I was all alone like in some cliched horror movie, only that it was real and I was one of the victims.
With all other options gone I did the thing most kids would probably do... the only thing i could think to do in a situation like this; I pulled the covers over my head and held my breath, the sound of my heart pulsing hard and hot in my ears.

Seconds that felt like minutes seemed to pass like an eternity and I could still hear movement outside the room, outside the fragile shield of my sleeping bag.
I risked a peek and the orbs were at the door, unmistakably two eyes that stared emotionlessly back at me as my breath caught in my throat.
I tried to scream but I couldn't... I couldn't move, I couldn't speak and the eyes just kept watching.
Suddenly there was a small gruff noise and a I jumped, crawling back against the bed behind me in terror before my adrenaline addled little brain clicked. It sounded like a dog.
I timidly moved forward and reached into the darkness with fingers spread wide and recoiled a little when something wet and warm ran across them, followed by a friendly sounding woof. It was a dog.
Giggling at myself for getting so worked up I stroked the poor beast and chatted to it for a bit before finally settling down for the night with the question of where it came from buzzing in my skull.

Next day my friend told me she'd always had a dog... somehow it'd just never come up and I'd never met it before. Oh well, it was funny then and still makes me smile now but when it happened it was the scariest thing ever!!!
Only thing that beats that was how I almost died on a fairground ride but that's another story

Ever look out your window, where the street lights illuminate the whole area with orange, and thought to your self, what if some weird alien or creature just popped its head behind the window? Anyways, the night was windy, and the moon was waxeous gibbous with some orange tint to it. So I headed off to sleep, wokeup at 3:20 A.M and I thought to myself, hmmm what if....So I looked at the clock beside me, which for some reason was upside down, and it read HELL, then I looked out the window and this guy was staring straight at me with a hood over his face, I couldn't recognize his facial qualities, but he darted away. I was so freaked out I didn't even move out of my bed until daytime.

Rest in Peace *cough -pieces- cough*

Anyway, the scariest thing to happen to me would have to be this. Every night around 3:00 there always seems to be this very low humming noise, I don't even know how to describe it. We live by an air force base (Offutt) so I expect weird noise and such, but this noise is just something else, it's pulsating and it comes from above. Normally I would just ignore it, hell, it happens every night, but on this night it was very loud, as though it were right above my house. I was spooked so I turned on my TV to try and dampen the noise. After watching for a little while I start to doze off but then all of a sudden a very bright flash lights up my room scaring the **** out of me. I run to the window, ready to open it, afraid of what I'd see. I open my blinds very quickly and almost **** my pants at what I see, a huge mass was on the windows. After a few minutes of pure horror, I realise what it is, grasshopers. We we're in the middle of a bad drought which brought all of the grasshopers out and they decided they liked my window as a perch. My relief was short lived because another bright flash light up the night, again, from right above my house it seemed. Wanting to get to the bottom of it, I went down the stairs and headed towards my porch, not knowing what I would see out there. I opened the door slowly and the low sound assaulted my ears again. I stepped out and looked up and there it was, a damn helicopter up in the air waving it's search light around. I almost laughed at myself at how stupid I must've looked. Turns out there was a pretty big pursuit and they had the helicopters out looking for the guy. You know where the light came from and the low sound had to be the helicopter, though I still hear it at night I dunno how else to explain it. Just a scary moment I had, thought i would share it.
