    Well, I don't know the exact address, but I do know that about half of their workers are all over the world, and just send their stuff in when its due, or when their done. The internet is a wonderful thing.

    I could.. if I wanted to.. My uncle taught me how to make Napalm!
    But... you know.. if I killed the guys at Valve.. they couldn't realize their mistakes and keep WON running.

    So you're quitting because of change? Bye, then.

    It's humanity's unwillingness to try new things that causes so much trouble, you know? Once Steam gets running properly, it'll be great. Better than WON. MUCH better. So, if you're going to quit because you don't want to take a chance and try something different, then goodbye.

    Nah i downloaded the beta. Tried to download all content ( max dload 512 kb/s ) and it wouldn't start any games in any servers.

    Now i downloaded the new and 'improved' official client..

    It won't even update and when it finally did it hangs on 'Preparing to play (mod)..'

    It's still doing that since 12 hours ago.

    I give up for now and might check it out in a week or so.

    I thought I had you in IRC on this topic...

    Humanity's unwillingness to try new things is what caused trouble? Hmmmmmm. I think it was the whole "servers being down" and that little "non-valve mods do not work/can be damaged by Steam" thingy that is making people think twice about Steam. Welders that shoot spikes? Jetpacks without sound? Menus having massive visual flaws? DAMN HUMANITY'S UNWILLINGNESS TO TRY NEW THINGS!

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Once Steam gets running properly, it'll be great.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    What is Steam? Steam in short is a way to find your buddies in games, then join those games. Its a chat system and a game browser. What's so great about that? We have All Seeing Eye, Gamespy Arcade, and See Me Play if we wanted that. I've heard from my one friend who likes to map in TFC that Steam has made the once simple act of loading a game and testing a map into much longer and silly process. What is so great about a chat/server browser program that does not work?

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->it'll be great. Better than WON. MUCH better. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    The WON system was able to handle all of the massive numbers that Half Life threw at them. Steam died the first day. WON never interfered with third party mods - Steam does. WON does not make 56k users download files over 500 MBs - Steam does. WON did not require you to run a crappy program in order to play Half Life online - Steam is that crappy program.

    In IRC you told me that you were sick of people bashing Steam because they never backed it up - you asked those people not to comment if they are unable to say why they dislike Steam. Once I told you every single reason why Steam is trash - all you could say was "Give it time." When, in IRC, I asked the same of you ( if you cannot backup why you like Steam so much - don’t comment) you still had no solid reason as to WHY its going to be better - and you still don’t - but yet you comment. Tisk tisk.

    You want a solid reason as to why Steam is going to get better?

    Simply put...

    It's VALVe. They've poured tons of cash in to Steam, and they're smart enough to see what's wrong, and fix it accordingly.

    Also, I didn't say that humanity's unwillingness to try new things is what caused problems with <i>Steam</i>. Most of the arguments I've heard against Steam are something like... "OMG WON WAS FINE WHY CHANGE WAS ISN'T BROKEN VALVE U SUK THIS WILL NEVR WORK RIGHT!!" I'll bet that a lot of people saying that haven't even given Steam a <i>chance</i>. If they won't give Steam a chance, and quit Half-Life forever because of it, then they'll never know if Steam gets better. Steam will get better, VALVe isn't stupid.

    Steam is a new program. It hasn't even been out a week. VALVe underestimated the load all their servers would take (A common mistake). What do you expect, when hundreds of thousands of Half-Life players are constantly refreshing the Steam website, downloading Steam, updating Steam, and downloading updates and content all at once? They underestimated the load it would all take so fast, and now they know that they need to boost their servers a bit.

    The bugs with third-party MODs will be worked out. VALVe has said that repeatedly. They're going to work with MOD teams once Steam gets settled in, to get their MOD working on Steam properly.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
    Once I told you every single reason why Steam is trash - all you could say was "Give it time."
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    How do you expect it to get better if you don't even give it a while to improve? It's like giving birth to a baby and expecting it to read, write, speak, talk, and use the toilet right away. It's not going to happen.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
    WON never interfered with third party mods - Steam does.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    And VALVe is going to work that out and get third-party MODs working without interference, as soon as they can. They've said THAT before, too.

    Ultimately, Steam gives VALVe more control over their game. It'll allow them to do much more than WON ever did. But like I said, it needs <i>time</i> to develop.

    Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play some TFC.

    The reason it's so unstable is because it's probably been rushed; Valve's major target here is HL2. Everything revolves around HL2.
    In order to release HL2 on time they had to deliver Steam on time and so in desperation to meet the mark they've rushed its release and well... this is what you get ^^;

    Like mr Badger said; give it time, they'll fix it up... even if they shouldn't have released it until it was properly finished -.-

    No. I don’t -- its pretty obvious to see that Steam will be fixed in XX months. The problem that so many people have is they don’t want steam - even when it is fixed. It offers nothing new that I cannot get anywhere else. It forces users to use their interface instead of having choices between third party matchmakers (and even if you use Steam w/ ASE you still need to be connected to Steam)

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Most of the arguments I've heard against Steam are something like... I'll bet that a lot of people saying that haven't even given Steam a <i>chance</i>.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Won was fine. Why change it? Even if Steam works right in 1 month many, many people do not want to be forced to use it. The people who have said Steam sucks have given it a chance. One chance is enough to realize when you don’t like something at its current state. If many gamers cannot even connect to a GeneralDicetoryServer then they have given Steam it's chance - and Steam/Valve blew it. How many "chances" and how much "time" did WON need?

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->VALVe isn't stupid.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    I thought this too. I started to question when I heard about the 3 available SKUs - but that really was not too stupid. It provided options - however the bad thing about that was that people would without a doubt be buying a SP only game when they wanted MP and have no idea. That was not too smart in my eyes. Then Steam. They force all users to connect to an interface that is unable to handle any kind of load at all. If you are going to tell me that Valve underestimated the server loads (which you are "VALVe underestimated the load all their servers would take (A common mistake)") then you are thus confirming my reasoning as to why Valve is stupid. You don’t release a matchmaking program for the most popular game, and expect only 10 people to connect to it. It was really obvious that the whole world was going to be connecting at the same time. And is this going to happen with all the new patches? A patch is released so everyone hits the servers at the same time - and we have these problems all over again. Weeeeeee isn't Steam the best program ever?

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->They're going to work with MOD teams once Steam gets settled in, to get their MOD working on Steam properly.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Once Steam gets settled in? Three, four weeks? WON was pretty quick about contacting mod teams to get their mods fixed for the WON system, they did it in about... oh wait -- they never did do that.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> How do you expect it to get better if you don't even give it a while to improve? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    There are currently 18,706 people (Petition) and 53% to 19% (PHL Pole) who do not want steam at all. Many gamers don’t give a crap if Steam improves itself - it is still trash. The basic idea behind Steam (SteamIDs, must have Steam open, must play the game through Steam... etc) is in itself a horrible idea. The fact that its release was one of the biggest disasters that valve has ever had is a different story.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
    And VALVe is going to work that out and get third-party MODs working without interference, as soon as they can. They've said THAT before, too.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    I hope that’s pretty soon, CAL is having their matches today, and UGL on Thursday. And judging from Valve's work pace - "soon" appears to be in a month.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Ultimately, Steam gives VALVe more control over their game. It'll allow them to do much more than WON ever did.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    And it gives the players none.

    Oh well, we can argue all we want, simply put, Valve screwed up big. That or else just called a beta a non beta <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
