<div class="IPBDescription">server side only mod of hera</div> Before anyone asks, merkaba OKed this.

I used ripent to edit the entities in game and make a different map out of hera. Because its all server side, you don't have to DL anything, and if you overwrite the original map with this one you can still connect to servers running the original map without a problem. If people like this enough I may ask merkaba for the source to do bsp editing and texturing to reflect the new hive placement and rerelease under a different name. For now its just ns_hera again. Version X2

Now here's the change log:

Command chair and team 1 starts moved to archiving. water in archiving removed and res node placed on the lower floor. CC is on the top area.
Archiving hive moved to the landing pad and spawns moved to the landing pad and lower marine start. Hive oriented so that its visually appealing and can be shot from the landing pad. Siege positions are the glass hall and marine start. I don't think these will be a problem because aliens can build Ds/Ms/Ss on the hallway.
Resource nodes removed from holo. It was too powerful and easy for marines to take.
Resource node added in the watery area behind DCD. Siegable from Holo. Main node from DCD hive.
Resource node replaced the old command chair in MS. Siegable from hera.
Hive in ventilation moved to maintenance. It fits and looks great. Spawns moved to maintenance as well. Node in maintenance moved to the top of the pipe it was previously under.
Stairway/ramp added between processing and ventilation.
Vent from DCA -> MS has been made marine friendly, it requires a boost to get into from DCA but you can travel along it to MS. if you're not just gassed or eaten.
To reduce the # of nodes to 10 and make proc less alien friendly since it is not a double siege point it is no longer a double node. One of the nodes is randomly chosen and killed at the start of a round. Check your map to see which one it is. This should add a small amount of variation into the game so its not boring.
Resource node in hera moved closer to the steps so its not as easily sieged and is harder to defend as marines.

Download it, backup your old hera if you want, and check it out. If you run a server and think it'd be fun to run for a bit (create a bat file that swaps this with the original hera and run them in rotation possibly?) let me know (pm me) so I can come play.

This map removes all of the complaints I've heard about the original hera - no double siege position, holo isn't too powerful, and marine start isn't a lerkfest of d00m.

That is really evil. I like the way you think? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Hummm.
I wonder what that error means, I'll do some research but I don't think I'll find anything.

It worked find on the dead clan server and played rather nice I think. You're the first person I've heard who's had a problem.

.... I can't find anything on what that bug is, I'll ask cagey.

Just for the record, worked fine on my windows server.

    From my PM reply -

FATAL ERROR (shutting down): MOD_LoadBmodel: funny lump size in maps/ns_hera.bsp

    really means -

stuff broke so bad I can't continue : when trying to load a brush model : the description of the brush model is obviously the wrong size (probably negative) so I can't load it

Since it's working on other people's servers, I'd try downloading again to see if the file was corrupted in transit.

Interesting, a total rework of Hera eh? Is Merkaba working on altering the current Hera? Just curious.

It sounds like this would be interesting to have a run through.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but unless I'm mistaken, the double siege point was already fixed in Hera 2.0...

Other then that, it's an interesting modification of Hera, certainly changes the way it's played. That loading bay hive, should probably be somewhere where the marines can knife it if they have to, without falling to their doom =\

It's not bad, but you haven't converted me =P Hera 2.0 forever!
  • Fortuna_WolfFortuna_Wolf Join Date: 2003-02-02 Member: 13033Members
humm, well, I very much doubt that the issue of a marine team needing to knife a hive and that actually mattering to the game comes up often. Besides, its not like you can knife the refinery hive or maintenance hive. Just gotta stare at it...

    Cagey, thanks.

Merkaba isn't doing any work to hera, he doesn't have time, this is just something I did on a whim.

And processing was fixed so that a single siege can't hit both hives. The siege points are now maybe 400-500 units apart, but that's like spitting distance.

a nice overview layout would make it so we can see the new hives/nodes distribution.

MENT to be fixed. Was not. One seige can still hit both hives.

Wolf you're not saying that from the processing point 2 hives can still be hit? If what I'm reading is correct all you need are 2 seiges.
This doesn't fix the problem. Unless your version does not allow the marines to seige Vent at all from processing I won't be changing to this version of Hera. Sorry, but I consider it to be the single biggest problem with an otherwise fairly good map.

Tried it again. Reuploaded file. Still crashed, same error.

Ran though it on another server, looks nice but the gameplay is too skewed now. Loading bay and Maint are too close together for one.

That's a very strange crash. I didn't edit any of the models so I don't know why its crashing. The only thing I can think of is that I removed some entities, but I didn't touch the models. I also have one model that's arrayed to form steps and its origin is outside of the map in several places.

Why do you think its too skewed? Loading bay and maint are separated by the same distance as DCD and maint. It only seems short because it doesn't have any branches.

I was playing hera on cofr today. We went from average pings of around 50-70 on eclipse to 150-200 on hera. I was then like, hummm. I should strip out some of the ambience.

I've removed most of the sprites and the particle systems. I've left the sounds in for now.

i am an admin in the following server:

    38.114.3.117:27015 NS 2.0 Texas Custom Maps[NO 56k]#hl-nation

I uploaded your map and we play it from time to time, it needs tweaks, feel free to come in and ask an admin to change to your map, i am known as -=DarkHunter=- there, other admins include QwertyAcess, BBC, and ~MASTER~.

few things i noticed need changing:

    - 2 res at ORIGINAL marine spawn is unfair for marines and aliens, if rines get it they get a doubleres and hive (HUGE ADVANTAGE) if aliens spawn there they practically have guaranteed 2 res (HUGE ADVANTAGE)

i say relocate that res to holoroom.......

    - marine spawn is not a good nivironment, its enclosed, allows easy kills for aliens, and sporing...

i say move commchair to back of hive..

    thats it for me.

You'll find comm chairs in stupid positions in most of the maps. Nothing's stopping you from putting the spawns on the bottom, or moving the chair out to data core delta.

I don't think the 2nd res node in old MS is an issue because you can siege it from hera entrance and if you look at say, feedwater, its resource nodes are closer to each other.

I'll try to drop into your server and see what's going on sometime but at the moment I'm working on a map and all I'll say about it is "Ur-Quan Dreadnought"
