Ns customizable?

Editting ns
Hey. As you can see by my post count, I'm pretty new around here. Enough introduction and to my question.. I was just wondering if you will be able to change around things once NS is released; such as X-hairs, model skins, etc. Sorry if it's already been answered somewhere, but I did a search for a few keywords and found nothing. Basically the reason I was wondering is because I'm pretty good at editting sprites and models and I'd like to release some cool new sprites and skins once NS is released.

I- Never mind, skip the ranting.

NS will be as customizable as any other MOD, if someone has skill with modeling they can make a new model, want you GL to sound like the gauss, make a copy, change the file name, over write the origanal file. If you've ever looked around and compared the structures of folders between MODs you'll notice how the system works and how easy it is to change something provided you allready have the materials.

    SO YES!

Customizable, yes. But . . .when you experience all the sweet artwork in action, i dont think you'll feel like its worth the trouble.

Very good question wolf, I was wondering the same thing, I love customizing games, custom CS models are the only reason I played the game so long. I can't even play DOD with the standard crosshairs, they are horrible

Pain in head, Longtooth, read above.

And the DoD crosshair is better at showing you how good\bad your aim is than CS's IMHO.

I loved DoD before they added the moving xhair type thing.

Also, the only reason I asked if you could change X-hair is that they look like they might be like CS xhairs and move and widen, and such. Though, I don't play CS much, I heard you can't change the main xhairs. I made some really great green, blue, and red transparent xhairs packs for my favorite game+mod TFC.

The modding of mods has gone way too far.

The point of a game is that everybody competes under the *same* rules. There have been endless debates when a change is so severe that it could be considered a cheat, and the opinions differ.

Are bright colours for models a cheat because they make recognizing easier? Are new crosshairs a cheat because they make aiming easier?

One thing is for sure, they give you an advantage you wouldn't have otherwise.

If I were in charge, all servers would enforce 100% file consistency via hashing. I'm aware many of the custom skinners mean no harm; but in order to combat the exploiters, this is a sacrifice that must be made.

Wait a minute... why would you want to mod NS? It's the most beautiful thing on the planet!

CollateralDamage, you said it brother, I'm with you on the 100% file consistency.
I can't imagine the sort of advantage you would get as a marine versing a level one in a dark room, if the dark room was turned white and the level one bright red, via texture and model manipulation. This could be a serious way to cheat in NS, and I hate cheaters with a vengeance

I'm hoping someone will release a model for NS that replaces the marines, and looks similar to my L33T space marine concept... I'm hoping for a replacement, hopefully with a full BDU (no missing glove fingers and a full collar and full helmet).....

I stress if. If it's not similar enough to the original skin, then I'll forget it, because the original model r0xx0r$.

Then again, I probably won't replace anything at all, unless I think it's incredibly ugly.

Don't worry, you will see more marine models in future releases, including a female model most likely

Theres a wonderful thing about being able to customize mods. It gives a opportunity to get bored with it, add a new HUD, slap on some sounds, pop a new cross hair on relive it with new vigor.

I.E DOD, if it wasnt for this reason I would have fogotten about DOD a while ago, The moving cross hair GREAT IDEA. ...so now I have three dots that when they are aligned shoot straight but they do move naturally, I have the old wolfenstien HUD as my hud. I havnt changed the sounds or Models yet. But when someone comes out with Bill-gates as a model for Nazi's Ill add them in...oh yes.

    Blah

I'm going to jump back to Humbaba's post and say that more than likely the artwork within NS itself will keep you satisfied.

Changing around models and such just makes the game different, and sometimes brings fun back to it. Atleast that's what it has done for me in TFC. No one really seems to mind what color your models are there, all they care is if your using some hack or something. All I have is good intentions, but I see what you mean.

I agree, i dont think they should have replacement models or the mod if they arent made by the dev team themselves. There are a lot of llamas out there, and they will for sure be using bright red/green skins along with pure white textures so they can look like they have "skillz"

Im ok with any client side weapon replacement models since they really dont help you fight the enemy, just make u feel like youre holding something more powerful

I disagree. Some of the best looking and most unique replacement models come from fans. Restricting replacement models to mod team-made ones really narrows the possibilities.

Rep. models add a lot of replayability to mods. Do you really want to let a bunch of cheaters ruin it for everyone? And you've gotta be pretty low to walk around a map that's one solid color. How annoying would that be?
  • Rico1Rico1 NS Oldtimer Join Date: 2002-05-24 Member: 664Members
Not nearly as annoying as a cheater ruining the game would be. Besides, most people dont understand why people cheat. They cheat because they want to look good(as pathethic as that sounds, its true) they want to feel like they are the best players out there even if their game looks like wolfestein3d. I cant see the fun in using an aimbot either, yet a lot of people use them. Same thing goes for the all white textures and models.

Mods can be ruined by a few llamas... i hope this isnt one of them.

If a guy does replace the models with ugly bright stupid models, then he's missing out on the style and graphics.

I am tired of people insulting Bill Gates, they always call him a computer nazi and things like that. All I have to say is if you insult Bill Gates you better be on a Macintosh. Hypocrites.

Well too bad for them, because marines don't get individual frags, and aliens can get a hivesight upgrade that hilights all the marines anyway. So what's the point?

The NS team has already made the mod cheaterproof to an extent.

The creation of custom models and sounds is something I have always embraced with Half-Life mods.

... until Natural Selection came around that is.

From what this lowly shadow demon has seen, nothing in this mod is worth replacing. The art in this mod is on par with many professionally made games, and then some. I'm fairly neautral on the whole "changing models is cheating" debate, since I couldn't care less. I'm simply saying you're one twisted mother to want to change them as they are now.
