[wip] Yet Another Assault Rifle ;)

Mostly looking for feedback and suggestions from more experienced modelers out there...
Built in MS3d, rendered in MaxR3, about 1190 polys at this point... Material shades right now are just for definition.

    Wow, normally curves don't look good on guns, but you nailed this.

    Suggestion: Delete the backfaces to lower the poly count, and keep up the good work <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->, this looks like it'll be a clear competitior for the top LMG spot (the design doesn't look chunky enough to be a HMG).

    You've hit the nail on the head- the back is what I was unhappy with... I want to do a bullpup arrangement, and was trying to stay away from a collapsible stock- trying to do something that looked more futuristic, with a shell molded from composites. The gun seems unbalanced to me also, and I'm not quite satisfied with the handle...

    I think you just need to make the shoulder handle (name???) ONE thing, bot like teh 3 nike spikes they are ATM. And I see 2 Barrels and 2 Mag-slots. Grens? Shotty? perhaps make 2 versions of the gun ^^ On GL/SG one LMG

    Just a suggestion... before you start modelling... always make sure AUTOSMOOTH is unchecked in the groups tab (assuming you use Milkshape).

    VERY NICE brimstone, i WILL be using it when u release it, well try to use it if u cut down on the polly's. btw how many poly's is the reg LMG at? i have a custom one now but how much is the original one so i can compare <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    EDIT: on the bar that leads down to the smooth thing to barrel of the gun (kinda like the sighting) u should add a laser pointer (not a laser point tho ) in ur skinning (kinda like the original turrent files and the red little computerized dot thingy) so it looks like it calculates alittle bit even tho u cant see it v_mdl ull be able to see it p_ and w_

    Actually, I hadn't been considering this for NS, but rather for a planned mod for either T:V or UT2k4- probably going to take my <i>On Deadly Ground</i> T2 mod now in beta and move it to the new engine. (T2 being pretty much dead is helping that decision along, too). The majority of models I have constructed so far have been hacks more or less, as I learn the tricks, and I'm feeling ready to start doing my own, and this was the first freehand model I've done. I've been lurking on the forums here for a while (my son got me into NS, which was a good thing- spending too much time on my mod), and developed a healthy enough respect for the talent here to ask for advice <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
    The only NS models I've done have been hacks done for my son and I to use ourselves, I closed the visors on the Halo (my light) and Starcraft (my heavy) marines, and made them transparent, recompiled the Halo to use the smartgun, and converted a CS pulse rifle model to NS, I thought it was more detailed than the AVP2 one used previously. And for * <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> * and giggles, I made a lightsaber knife replacement- but it's kinda crappy- the additive rendering isn't truly fullbright, so it looks bad in darkness. If there was a way to add the glow effect, maybe, but I'll probably be canning that one. My NS custom theme, you ask? Hehe, if it looks cool, use it, it's all in fun anyway <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Marathon was a Macintosh only FPS that had one of the best storylines ever featured in a FPS ever, the second in the series was also ported to the PC and it has a very RABID fan base, it was done by bungie. It's hard to get a good picture of it in the old 2D style graphics, but team a team of talented moddlers and etc are porting the first game over to the old UT engine and it looks pretty sweet, for some good pictures of their, er, interpetation of the Marathon classic assault rifle here are some links:

    *blushes* Yes, I would be that Brimstone... Playing NS is how I've been unwinding from that... but I didn't come here to pump another mod, so 'nuff said about that...
    I do see a resemblance to the Marathon weapon, in the "molded" look I was seeking, and with my decision to go for a FN-2000 style stock, perhaps a bit more... I was even going for a color scheme similar to that... It is currently in open beta, but I am seriously considering moving it to either the Tribes:Vengeance or UT2k4/UT2:XMP formats, because the T2 scene was pretty much dead by the time it was ready for beta...     This is a really nice model. I do hope you get it for NS, i cant wait to be able to use it.

    I hope this comes out as a HMG cause i cant seen to find a decent one :/
    This would fit in just great.... Hope you get it done soon.

    Also why the 2 clips. Is i supost to be a HMG/Gl or somthing?
