Are the maps for version 1 finalised?

<div class="IPBDescription">Just curious...</div>i know the maps are all currently being tweaked, just wondering if its been decided which maps are in or out.

Are all maps currently being playtested going to be in version 1? or will some be dropped?

would it be too much to ask for a list?  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

Until any official announcement is made by Flayra, the only maps that are guaranteed to be included in version one are Bast (by Relic25) and Hera (by Merkaba).  While I very highly doubt that he won't pick some or all of the fine maps that we're playtesting to be included in version one (Nothing, Eclipse, Caged, Nancy, and a few more), he has said in the past that he would release with only Bast and Hera if absolutely necessary.

Maybe it would be best to release NS with only about 4-5 maps and leave the rest for us to download so that when NS is released we don't have to download a huge file becuase it has 8-9 maps. Just an idea.

I honsetly can't imagine NS being released without Nothing, Eclipse and Caged.  It would be... wrong  <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->

Even if you do that it will all be the same size in the end, there wouldn't be any download change considering you would need those extra maps for later. Oh well, I'm glad HL doesn't have such a tricky adding map configuration such as AvP 2.

If they make the mappacks seperate, then barely any people will download them (Like AvP2. Whenever we switch to a map that's in a mappack, 3/4 of the server doesn't come back). I'd say it would be best to make it come with the main file, to stop everyone from just playing on one map, complaining about how the mod is bad (when they really are just tired of the same map).

That's why it's Flayra's plan to include all official maps in the base install.

Lost is nice. However, Lost is also quite dark. I think Flay might have reservations about including maps that are that dark.

Well, I have let it collect some dust.  After looking at it, and after various other things, I've decided that it needs a redesign.  The layout's good, and some areas are good, but I just need to go through and rebuild so much of it, that I've kept quiet.  I'll get back to it later.

If NS was released than any less than <b>5</b> maps, I would drop dead in shock, there is just that many good ones <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> So do not fear!

Personally, I am crossing my fingers that as many maps as possible are released.  From the screenshots I've seen of the various maps,  it's my opinion that Natural Selection's worst looking map(I'm not speaking of any map impaticular mind you) looks far superior to any other mod's best looking map(visually of course, who knows how they play(other than play testers, that is)).  I've never been stunned by any map I've seen for Half Life before, but I can honestly say that some of the maps I've seen for NS leave me in awe.

I don't like "the more maps the better" idea,  I personally think at early release only put in the really good ones, the ones that you feel capture the essence of the game.  For example I love SI but with so many maps I get angry because even now I havent completeley mastered all the maps,  and in that game it sucks when you have a sci but can't find your way out of the enemy base.....

Flawed argument.  SI has been around for a long time, and while I don't knowq much about how or when maps got added, there has been plenty of time for people to at least get acwuainted with them.  I mean, CS must have about the same (if not more) maps, and no one's complaining.
  • BattousaixBattousaix Join Date: 2002-06-25 Member: 822Members
cs dropped most of the beta 1 maps.......
the only ones left from beta 1 are dust and assault.....
many maps where added and token away from it, this happens on all the mods.....

I am never flawed greedo.  How could SI have been around for a long time when its only on its second public release?  And also CS isn't comparable because the maps are always simple in comparison to SI and NS.  Also it wasn't an argument it was an anecdote.

Probably because they're all playing Dust.

I kind of agree that to many maps can be a bad thing, but I think that's only for certain games, I think it would just add variety to a game like this.  Then again putting 15 maps in a MOD's first release might be overkill.

I have no clue if this is true but it's still been out for about as long as I've been playing CS, if I played SI more I'd probably know most of the maps. (I know like one of them) I like SI too, I just can never find a good server.

SI=Science and Industry?  I've played HL for 4 years and SI has been out for as long as I can remember.
  • TomboTombo Join Date: 2002-05-17 Member: 626Members
SI is a nice innovated game...but i really don't think any mods can be compared to ns at all....in my opinion 6 to 7 maps would be great for first release..
