Edit: DOH stupid title. cal shaded rofl... <span style='color:orange'>Fixed it for you.</span>

Ok I've finally gotten it right this time. I'm working on cel-shaded pack v2 now. In it included new skins which make the players look more cartoonish but also they comic-book style black lines around them. It looks really good in-game. I am working on doing this to all the marine and alien buildings too. I will release it soon.

    Actually I used the same technique of reversing the vertex order of duplicated selections in milkshape. THe texture makes it look cel-shaded though because of the high-contrast areas in it, and teh cartoonish look.

    It definately looks interesting!

    I would really like to see all the walls and structures converted as well. But... I dont know how you could achieve cell shading in maps?
    Is it possible at all? I figure you could put your texture quality really low <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I took a shot of a team of marines to show you guys whats up with it. What will end up happening is that the marines faces will look straight out of final fantasy 7 - no facial features. But here it is. The marine skin looks pretty... ehh... yeah but i'm working on it!

    The pack will be huge, replacing every single model. So in order for it to be out before NS 4.0, I will need people to help me "outline" all the gun models. P.M. me for more details.

    As stated before, a bit more detail wouldn't hurt, but not too much. I doubt its possible to do the maps, but the models IN the maps can, but then it'd look stupid(i.e. chairs being cell shaded, but the consoles next to them not).

    Great job, and I hope to see this done!

    You should contrast the marine's facial features, like the characters in XIII.

    Yeah, I think I will make everything except the facial features have a lower quality texture so then they will at least have facial features.

    Oh and Azrael, it seems that your resource tower is Maus's project X one, and ur lmg skin is the gator.

    Are you gunna make cell-shaded versions of those, or r u gonna do teh defaults ?

    I wouldnt blur the models as much, dont over do the blurring.

    Can't see the image but as it's 'cell shaded' it should be blocks of colour rather than just a blurred skin.

    its faked cellshading (the one with the copied outer hull with the reversed normals).. the curret halflife engine used by us does not support the cellshading mode.. only smoothshading (and i think i can use flatshadet models too)

    theres 1 game out there (XIII) that is using a modified version of the unreal engine that supports real cellshading..
    would be cool if you could use this uhm... "cell" engine to play unreal mods on them... but i think theres no way to update this game to the newest unreal version ...in this engine you dont have to hax arround on a model to get a cell shaded effect.. just model it,texture it with a simple texture (maybe you dont even need a texture..if its using materials it does not even have to load texture junks) and put it into your game..

    Update: All aliens player models and buildigs are complete and re-skinned. They look really good. Can't post pics because of bandwidth use. No alien v_models are done yet. I don't think I'll even do the v_models though. I'm getting an error now with compiling the marine stuff. "too many normals in model ####". And there's only 900 triangles. Oh well, I'll work on it some more. I will release just the aliens soon (probably tomorrow).

    If you get the "too many normals" error, try selecting the inverted black triangles group and use Vertex->Weld Together.
