Medpacks

when to ask
Early in the game, before you are encountering onos and the such, it is economically inefficient to ask for a med pack if you have MORE then 52 health, as this is the amount of damage a skulk will do to a marine who still has armour (if no upgrades has been purchased). So if you find yourself on 70hp, for example, you can still survive two bites, the same amount as if you still had 100 hp, so new players, PLEASE don't ask for medpacks until your health drops to 52 or below, it isn't worth the two res.

If it's REALLY early game....(like, the start) and your team is rushed at base and you get bit once and kill off the skulk rush, I usually tell my team to kill themselves, saves res even if they were below 52hp

defending
As long as they dont get into the habbit of it.

However wouldn't they do more damage attacking the expanding aliens? Aliens expand too fast as it is, and those few seconds while you wait in the queue (ith the other marines that followed your advice,) may be enough for the alien team to take a key area.

Despite this, I still think you are being sensible. Make sure to tell people only to kill themselves if they are defending the base;that way no damage is done.

Spawning players also cost resources (I think it is 1 res per spawn) so if you take into account the res cost to spawn and the time wasted waiting in line to spawn it's normally worth dropping a med pack.

If I have a very good player I will always give them a med if they get below 70 health.

No it dosent cost res to spawn.
• ZerogreatZerogreat Join Date: 2002-12-11 Member: 10537Members
Respawning costs res only in tournament mode.
• Mjr_BeatingsMjr_Beatings Join Date: 2002-12-21 Member: 11283Members
Ok, sorry I was thinking in clan mode, still I'd rather give a med than listen to people whining at me, chances are it wont dent your resources that much, and it certainly wont swing matches.

I agree with this, instead of making you team kill themselves, just make them rush the alien hives or hunt a gorge, of course, not leaving the base compleately alone

Yeah, in the beginning of the game when res is limited and needed to expand. Suicide is the much more economical solution in 3/4 of the cases. IMO.

Hey BlueNovember, nice avatar m8, where did you get, or did you make it yourself?
It would uber cool having the blademaster as an avatar

Isn't that a Demon Hunter?

On-topic, thanks for letting me know about that over 52 health thing. Never thought about it.

you will all die in blizzard hell. mmm comms gimme rambo assistance at start they get a 10 minute lecture. I get muted, cant help and lose because im ooooh so important

its not the inefficiency ( as that doesnt kick in till armour 2 i believe,) its about the actual effect 5%+ of your res has in combat at the point where you need it: early game youll probably have insufficient ammo to properly rambo and also the main reason youre dodging skulks is a lack of ammo or a reload at which point you are dead if you are ramboing. A comm trying to assist will have to spend 6 res at the very least which is a complete waste of time.

The only time I'll ask for a medpack is if I'm wearing HA, have a jp, welder or some heavy weapons, other than that, its a waste of time and res for the comm.
• SuddenFearSuddenFear Join Date: 2003-06-21 Member: 17571Members
I don't get why people in heavy armour always ask for medpacks. Even if they have full armour, the moment their health falls to around 85hp, the "med pls" spam begins. There's just no need at all. =\

I think the best way is to let your comm decide when to give you meds

OT:
Reply to RedEye and Beserker.

I tried to make one myself, then found a person who has lots already. I am just linking to his site. (I know this is bad netiquite, but GeoShities won't host it, and neither will the forums, nor AvatarHost.com or whatever it was.)
You can right-click properties on my avatar to see the site. It has the Blade master too I think. The one I use is the Demon Hunter.
Glad you like it.

And sorry for going so off topic.

So I see.
Nice. I like the turquoise bits on mine though.

Hmm. Now we look like clan members or something. I don't mind.
• BlueNovemberBlueNovember hax Join Date: 2003-02-28 Member: 14137Members, Constellation
Oh right.

Fam says I shouldn't use such a big avatar. Whoops. Maybe you should change too. I will optimise mine and host it myself...

Look, can anybody recomend an avatar host? I'll make a new topic, but as this one is going this way I thought I'd ask.

Oh, it must be free.

It doesn't cost res to spawn in tourny mode.
• BlueTorpeedoBlueTorpeedo Join Date: 2003-03-10 Member: 14359Members
Personnaly , I think there should be medpacks as items (a la TFC) instead of simply spawned off manually by the COM. You could make Medpacks a Level 1 or 2 weapon (replace pistol or LMG) and they could use it on freinds as a 'rine would a welder. I also think that marines should be able to give ammo to one another like in Dod.
I feel that this would discourage rambos and give more advantage to teamplay. It would also relieve the COM of all the crap (mostly from rambos) of having to leave other tasks asside while he goes off to heal/arm rambos and the injured. Maybe other COMs may have no trouble with this but it personnally annoys me.

Whats your opinion?
• LoRDxDeMoNLoRDxDeMoN Join Date: 2003-03-17 Member: 14636Members
only time i'd ask for a medpack is when i carry big guns (shotty, hmg, GL); since the comm already spent 10+ res on me, 2 more shouldn't bother him.

if i have nothing of value, i never ask for meds/ammo; even when following waypoints, or attacking wols/hives/whatever. besides, if the comm knows his craft, he can tell if his soldiers need that extra 50 health to push through.
• LitoLito Join Date: 2003-09-04 Member: 20560Members
It depends on the situation. I would not give a medpack to someone who just sits in base with red health asknig for one unless i have alot of res, but i would gladly give medpacks to the two marines who are trying to take out some ocs, or holding down that hive. Its not a matter of when to 'ask for it' but when the situation calls for it
