Gorge Rush

<div class="IPBDescription">the real way</div> This will only work if you have the whole team agree to a gorge rush

first have everyone but one person go gorge. Whoever is skulk goes and scouts the marines and find out where they are.

have everyone select heal spray...pile into the marine base (outside, but not outside range)

have the gorges quickly drop as many ocs as the limit will allow, and with the rest of the res put down some d chambers. whoever was the scouting skulk would engage and harass the marines.
Nothing should die if everyone keeps healspraying (except some marines to come too close <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->).

Healspray as one gorge slowly builds of all the ocs first, then the defensive second

bask in sweat gorgerushing victory.

Though it can be done with marines still inside the base, its generally better if you wait for the marines to leave base to go take a hive/res hunt, and works best right in the beginning (no upgrades, no special weaponry and no money to throw out shotties.

The only real counter to this is in the commander gets seige really early in the game which is really unlikely

That strategy sounds promising. It is very likely to work if:
    - The entire team is willing to gorge rush.
    - Your team doesn't split up into 2, then 3, then 4 groups and head in different directions.
    - The eggs don't get ripped open by a group of marines charging out from the spawn, armed with shotguns.
    - The marine team doesn't rush to a hive, finding it to be your undefende starting one.
    - No more than 1/2 of the team dropping RTs because "In case the rush fails".
    - No more than 1 out of 6 players global asking over global say: "How do I gorge?"

Teamwork and coordination are what usually what's lacking on pub servers... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Forget the d and drop movement before you rush. Endless heal spraying is alot better than cara. Depending on the base and if its early in the game you can all rush in regardless of how many marines are there. I've been on a gorge rush and done this same thing. Great fun.

Sometimes what I like to do is instead of going onos is go gorge and use all the res to spam a nice line of 8 OC's anywhere near a big marine base. With build oc bound to my mouse3 this is easily done especially if there is another gorge with you to help you build fast or an onos to distract the marines.

...and if the marines relocate into the 1 hive you have this early in the game and destroy it...?

If you're gonna rush, make sure you drop at least one upgrade chamber before you move out of your base. Evolving out on the field will get you killed, even if it only takes a few seconds. You can drop the other 2 later, if you wish.

How do you bind a key to place an oc, its really hard in 2.0 in 1.04 you just had to move right and up, if i remember correctly.

you can do it through the regular keyboard config in half-life

that is the 'Controls' menu under 'Multiplayer'

I've also had about 5 gorges coming in and just healspraying eachother. Of course, marines with shotguns/mines would of taken care of that pretty quick, but we were a little short on res, so we were kind owned ._.

    skulk rush is more effective

    gorges r too slow
    cant get into vents

more like 1/3 gorge and 2/3 skulk rush

well its not exactly a 'rush' in a sence that you get there as fast as you can. but more of a 'everyone go there and work there together'

A few skulks with either carapace or celerity, making at least one kill per run into the base and retreating to heal before death can really win a war of attrition. Turrets slow it down a bit, but don't stop it. A shotgun will end it, as you can't be healed if you are dead (same as gorge rush).

You see, the whole point of going gorge for this 'rush' is because spamming healspam both heals others and hurts the marines, as opposed to Skulk bites, which just kill quickly. This combined with the gorge's greater health would be better.

And if we're using mixed arms, do note that the gorges both have to be evolved and they run slower, meaning the Skulks would be dead and gone before the gorges arrive.

"Rush" is simply a term that's become so common in gaming that it's applied to whatever strategy you use first, even if it's relatively slow.

Simply because Skulks are faster doesn't mean they have to go in first. It's actually better if your Skulks go in after the Gorges, since they'll be less likely to be spotted and consequently killed.

I just tried this on a pub server, god that was a blast. We did it twice before we deemed lame and moved on.

4 or 5 of us gorged, mass heal spray/built one OC each. Game over.

How to deal with a lot of gorges using teamwork? Use teamwork, but not as much. Here's what I once said to single-handedly save the day:

"Everyone fire on the left gorge!"

We all fired on the left gorge, and he died.

"Everyone fire on the right gorge!"

We all fired on the right gorge, and he died.

Then there were three gorges left out of the five, and they couldn't out heal our marines. So, they died too. Didn't even need shotguns, all I had to say was who to fire at.

Gorge rushes work on horrible marines, what happens if they plop mines down, or if one has a shotgun and fires two shells at the gorge in the back, who's not getting equal covering. What happens if (like origin or eclipse) you have to walk across the room to get all the marines. You can't keep that big swarming mass of gorges together forever, you're going to die if the marines spread out or can shoot straight.

Gorge rushes are a tactic that works based on luck, like a lot of tactics. It just doesn't have a real consistancy unless you outnumber the marines.

Thats exactly what I was gonna say. No real marine team is even gonna be in the marine spawn by the time you get in their base. They will have either built it up or relocated to a hive/double res. This would only work if you were playing against one of those teams where no one wants to comm.

First off, we're talking about mostly the whole team gorging here, not jsut 5. The neveryone drops an oc. So the only way to shoot them is if you jump the ocs and start shooting them or go behind. either way the healspray gets you pretty quickly if everyone is using it. once the ocs are up, gg. It, in fact, works even better when the marines arn't in base. This gives us time to build up the ocs before they come. if the maries are there, get only one gorge to build up the ocs while the others keep heal spraying.

If they relocated, fine, do it where they relocated.

The only counter i see to this is shotgun rushing either the hive or shotgunning the ocs (if allthe marines fire together ,they should be able to kill faster than heal spray heals.). When in the porcess of being owned by a gorge rush, the only option is to run (although many commanders waste alot of res trying to fight back when its utterly futile.), and try to get as much money as you can through recycling. But if you pull it off well enough, no marines should escape.

The point is, the aliens don't go to you, they WANT the marines to come in and try to kill them. Aliens jsut sit behind the ocs and build/healspray themselves. If any marines get close, they get owned by healspray.

I remember people trying this on me once. We tried relocating, but was owned shortly after we had a base set up.
