My cable gives out every now and then... it's better than it was though.

It eventually got to the point where I could recognize when my connection was about to drop, and I would be able to reset the modem and get reconnected before I timed out from my game of CS.

See, the problem with cable as opposed to DSL is this.
Cable isn't Dedicated, your sharing your bandwidth with others, Sometimes Cable can be as slow as 48kbps! However Dsl is The same speed all the time about 256+ up speed and 640+Down.  I'll admit if you have a crappy provider as is with ours BBLABS, Then you will have alot of downtime from incompetant excuse for sys admins! (No, not bitter, not bitter at all.)

So watch out, when you ask for service with a dsl provider enquire about Bottlenecks, especially if there connection to a backbone happens to run through texas...Texas seems to be a bad place for bottlenecks. <!--emo&--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''><!--endemo-->

My mother on the phone yesterday as I explained my problem while she asked why I was upset. She has a habit of blocking out Comp Jargon and only hearing what she knows.
"Bottleneck? Well if your drinking from it just get long necks. They pour better."

    Me

"Ah you see mom, but my Corckscrew is just inadequate im thinking of updating to the 3.4 Model."

    My mom

"Just use your te......(long puase..)......Oh...you'r doing that again...."

    Me

"Put dad on the phone..I need to ask him about Floppy's"

Me snickers (My dad always thought floppy's where a type of steak, seems while he was in the military they had a nickname for food on the ships.

    God I love my parents ><!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Although my dad still thinks computer work is easy...yeah let him set up 450 servers in four weeks with those damnedable Cobalts only running on 2 hours of sleep every two days..

    Oh...I should go now....

im on DSL 512k - and well, my providers a little expensive, even though i never experience lag unless some #¤%/# 33k'ers (or was it 14k'ers) that joins the game...bah...

BTW - whos that dumb to think that you can run a super great looking game without experiencing lag with a 14k?<!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

Vejita, please explain how someone on dialup can make your connection to the server worse. You should be glad that you're playing with dialup people. They use less bandwidth than Cable/DSL people do.

Actually, I'm the only person in my area who uses cable - most of the people near me either use DSL (1 person) or use dialup.

Judging by my neighbourhood, the reason is as follows:

5% care about the internet and have DSL
5% care about the internet and have cable
60% use the internet but can't be bothered/can't afford DSL or cable, just use dialup
30% don't use the internet; are scared of useful technology

So I'm happy with cable. It's pretty nippy...

cable absolutley brilliant.Ive had it for a year now and last week i used a normal modem and i nearly cried because of how slow it went. Also my cable provider is fairly cheap and never goes wrong. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->
