<div class="IPBDescription">:D w00t</div>I got a new job doing PHP Programming part-time at a local company! w00t! Will be working MWF 8-5 (ugh), and its only like a 3 minute drive from campus. w00t. I'm very very excited as this is my first job to actually be programming stuff. Can't wait to see if I do good or end up changing majors and living under a bridge, or worse, becoming a sysadmin (hi Monse).
I've put in my 2 weeks notice at doombank :P

With all your spare moolah you could shout a Radeon 9800 pro for all the OPs in #ns! Yay!

Its uhh.. $10 an hour. heh. But oh well, its more than I was making, and there aren't many other places that hire a <b>part-time</b> programmer. In most businesses, when you're part-time you generally get paid less than a full-time employee, even if you work the exact same job and do the same hours.
The interview was good, obviously. He was quite impressed that I wrote an application that upwards to 10,000 people downloaded and was also working with multiple mod projects. :)
Oh and guys, i.e. bank job: Where I work at there's no cash, since we're the <b>Check</b> Processing Center. :P And since I'm the honest type I wouldn't swipe anything anyway, cause I mean it's not my money, and its not the bank's either, and they'd be **** enough to not give the customer a refund or whatnot.
Sysadmins are administrative maintainers of systems. I am an engineer, and design systems. An important difference. Neener! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Great work on getting out of doombank. Now write readyroom.org a nice PHP news and comments system, or I will crush you!
Touche! :P

k, just give me a few months to learn things :P Oh and there's a few propriatary things I gotta write first. And I'm lazy. But isn't there some PHPNuke thing that already does this?
MonsE, you can download CuteNews from <a href='http://www.cutephp.com' target='_blank'>http://www.cutephp.com</a>
It's an extremely simple news script but gets the job done, and done well.
I don't think you'd have much trouble learning it, but then again you ARE an engineer so I may have spoken too soon.
I'm actually very interested in someone taking over readyroom.org, so I will probably leave it up to them. But that is the subject of another thread - Doom deserves better than a hijack in his moment of glory. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Oh wait, you were probably talking to the other programmers here... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
First, congrats. I know how hard it is to get a good web development job.
Second, no, don't use CMS systems if you want to customize anything, they do what they do and don't accept much more. Most of them are so specific that writing a template can take programming skills. Some have done a good job, these forums for example, and allow alot of true CMS features from the admin page. Though, I prefer Coldfusion to PHP, mostly because we (guys where I work) have found it to be more forgiving, easier to debug, and it has a system called fusebox4 (fusebox.org) which allows the most modular program structure I have ever seen in any web programs to date.
Okay, enough rants and thread hijacking...
Congrats again!

Learning C++ sucks. Using it is fun. :-D
Here's where I turn into artsy touchy feely mode...
I program as a form of artistic expression. I suck at drawing and painting. I suck at music (both instruments and especially singing). I suck at writing, poetry, and anything else in that area. I can't model or skin or map. But damn it, I can program!
The reason I want to program games is because I want someone to enjoy my labors. Nobody opens up Word and goes "wow, that was great! this is fun!". People do that with games. I like being able to entertain people. That's one of the main reasons I want to get into game dev.
Programming is an art, not a science.
GJ Buddeh!
Good luck with the new job, I'm sure you'll have a blast there <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
