All of my friends play Counter Strike except one, he plays this game, I was wondering if your guys opinion, what mod is better, and in which way, and which I should play, because I am buying Half-Life tonite, and I wanna make a good decision before then, so any + and -'s would be great. To ask which mod is better in a NS community is like asking a kid, whether he is the best kid in the block or not. Seriously, you need to decide yourself. Some people prefer NS, while some CS. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

Well, I don't understand what your problem is here: these two mods are free.

So try both of them!

If I may suggest something though, try CS first, and then NS.
Because if you try NS first, you may not find CS that great after all... <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'> (but still CS rocks, I can tell you <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'> and so does NS <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'> )

I like Natural Selection, so im gunna choose it, its got more of the futeristic enviroment, with high-tech weapons, and more strategy, then blowing **** up, the community seems alot nicer, so I will choose it, and I hope to be playing with you guys tonite.

Is Natural Selection, more of a wait until they come game, or a run in and get shot game?

You'll find out that NS is far more than only 'run-and-shoot' or 'wait-to-get-shot' mod. It all depends on cooperative play and following commands from your commander (marines) or fast reflexes and the ability to work as a team (aliens). Luckily, the score board (kill count) has been removed, so people aren't as tempted as before to go on lone killing sprees and saying "look at my kill count, I am teh uber marien!!!11"...

Just go in, see, learn, follow, have fun and you'll learn NS in no time. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

IMHO, there seems to be far less lamers/racists/cheaters in the NS community. Unfortunately this maybe because the game is better made and is less exploitable, or maybe cos NS just hasn't been out for as long as CS for the racists to drift in.

Hmmm, Racists, they are really ****, and lame, insulting someones culture is stupid, and there should be like a report system for racists. (Im new so correct me if there already is one).

I suppose you could report them to servers and things. I think Valve has some sort of feature to ban their WonID. However so many cheap copies of half life and free codes online are available that it doesn't really accomplish much.

Natural Selection has one great advantage for any player new to first person shooter games: You respawn quickly when you die. That means that you don't have to sit and wait through a whole round of play if you got killed within the first 30 seconds (like I usually do when I play CS). But both games are good, they have different strengths and weaknesses, and I also think that you should try both out and choose whichever one you like best (and of course I hope you choose NS). <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

I've already chosen NS, it looks kewler, and more tactical with the welding and such. and im a fan of rts and mmorpg.

CS has very little depth to it, and NS has more depth than most games. There's very little to CS other than running around shooting people aimlessly (not that there's anything wrong with that. The strange thing is that there are plenty of games which do that *better* than CS). On the other hand, there's TONS to learn about NS. Much much more than other games. Agreed.

I think the only thing keeping CS going is its availabilty/wide spread use.

However, the terrorist / counter terrorist theme may be something to do with it too, as is the multitude of weapons. But why have 8 machiene guns when you can have 2, a grenade launcher, or even a bite weapon and slash abiltiy?

I don't like CS because in normal play, on public servers, for normal (eg non-computer-addicts) your score is directly proportional to *your ping* + *your computer specifications*

NS *requires* strategy and team-work, meaning with a 400+ ping and a useless computer it's still possible to get a good score.

...there's also more mods than just NS and CS =P as others have said, try them all! that's the beauty of HL -- there's enough mods to this one game so that you barely need to ever play another game... well, that's pushing it.. =P but Team Fortress is fun too, add that to your 'mods to try' list... and Sven Co-op, and scientist hunt...

Man if you want to see some people that REALLY loathe CS you should go to The Specialists forums. I swear, if you met some of those people on the street and told them you liked CS you'd end up lying in a dumpster with a bullet hole in your head. You can always play both, they are free.

Natural Selection takes time to get used to but CS on the other hand is a hop in lets go type of a game. As long as you can concentrate and be patient Natural Selection is the right mod for you <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>

When it comes to mods the best bet is to shop around, find things that appeal to you.
Quite frankly I'v got around six mods.
Natural Selection(Great mod for teamwork and my favorite when I'm in the mood for a bit of a challenge)
Counter-Strike(pretty good for teamwork, I use it to beef up my stealth skills, plus if you want a change you can alwase get p***ed of your rocker and try playing it fun times to be had <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'> )
The Specialists(great for pulling off cool moves and having loads of fun)
Earth's Special Forces(I like this because its perfect for when your really in the mood to get in,kick some **** and cause a lot of destruction.)
Day of Defeat(Good for teamwork when you feel like playing back in the WW2 time).
Desert Crises(Jumping around off walls with a mixture of futuristic and modern weaponary..ok for teamwork but not alwase the best as you can run in rambo styles and get a lot of kills, but theres something about running towards and enemy, jumping off a wall and throwing a katana down on their heads as you pass thats just to irresistable to turn down)

Science and Industry? That's just totally nuts. What other mods allow you to whack people over the head with a suitcase in order to help you research the Advanced Coffee upgrade faster.

Still, they've got nothing on NS.

And you gotta love the fact few other games much less mods are god game/shooter or however its put. I think theres only like 3 other games that do it, don't know the names tho. I just wish i could play C&C like this. Not all the new ones or the add ons just the origional one, still my fav game. but thats not saying much. anyway i'm just rambling on so i'll stop here.

I think pwn originated from a speeling eroor. You may have noticed that the p key and o the key are very close together and that "own" is a word used often by HL mod players. I think you can connect the dots now but I'll connect them for you, (because drawing is fun! <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'> ) some poor HL mod player misstyped the o in "own" thus creating the word "pwn". And since then, the word "pwn" is used in place of "own". That's my theory at least.
