I am composing a general comm guide & an advanced comm guide on my website. It will be ready in about 4 days for download, and the page will be finished sometime this century.
I'm no good comm ( I suppose seeing as how I never comm ) but here's some tips
First of all, read the manual/FAQ/forums for info on what buttons there are and what they do, what the different buildings and weapons do etc
Second of all, play NS ( duh ) as a rine ( not comm ) and listen to all those screams you often hear about what the comm "should" be doing ( although most of these screams are from weirdos who think they know best, these are the same guys who say "you should have done this and that 5 min ago and we would have won" when their team loses )
A then third, comm ( most obvious step prolly )
Try to find some server where they tolerate newbie comms and then comm there, listen to the screams again, and learn that way
I think that the best way of learning is prolly to just do it ( like with most things )
OK
Sooo... Sorry for making something short unbelievably long ( which people who've seen my other posts should be pretty used to ) AND sorry for all those parenthesis.... ( I'm acctually **** myself off couse I wont stop using them ) ( see ? I did it again ! ) ( AND AGAIN ! ) ( uuuh... I'll stop now )
The best advice I can give you is, that before you go commander in an actual game, you make a local game or join a server with no or few players, and spend some time getting familiar with the command interface. It is a great advantage knowing where to find which functions so you don't have to struggle too much with that when the heat is on.
Good luck with commanding. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

And more. But yes, some ppl would like to change it. Is it based on your primary fire/secondary fire keys? Does changing those change it?
I'm not willing to test. I fear trying to shoot a skulk and only bring up my gesture menu...

Unfortunately, nobody can be told what Comming is; You have to see it for yourself.
Comming is everywhere. It's all around us. Here even, in this Marine Start. You can see it when you look at your rines, dying by the dozens. You can see it when you watch your monitor. You feel it when you go to set waypoints, or go to the Forums, or pay your for Weapons Upgrade 2. It is the interface that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
That you are a slave, Wiggles. That you, like every other Comm, were born into bondage... kept inside a prison you cannot see, touch or smell. A prison for your mouse. A prison made from pub marines who will not listen, nor follow waypoints; a prison from alien teams made from vets since all the new players want to shoots stuff, a prison made from a hulking onos at gametime of 7 minutes.....
You stay away from CC and the story ends. You wake up in marine spawn and shoot things, don't worry about strategic chokeholds, rez income, onos at 7minutes, in short, you believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the CC and you stay in Wonderland, and I show you just how deep the rabbit-hole goes.
Remember, all that I am offering is the Drunken Intoxication of Absolute Power. Nothing more.
Dune200 doesn't exist. It's Dune2000. And AoE lets you chose. If you're going to correct me, do it right <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Besides, C&C and Warcraft preceded them, and more people have played them. Therefore they're better to use as examples.
Dune2000 was a typo. There's t000 many zeros around these days. I did not actually kn0w tha AoE lets you chose.
Lemme think of more examples.
Nah. Can't.
Any0ne else?
Haven't seen one using the old style for years....
