<div class="IPBDescription">Can you play without one?</div>I just wanted to know befor the mod comes out, (whenever, i know. so long as it comes out, i'll be happy.) can you play without a commander if you're human?

i mean, can you still place structures like a turret, or seige about the map?

Can you still select your own equipment? i think it would be kinda bad if you couldn't select your own equipment if there was no commander <img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
these are just some simple questions, seeing as i was unable to find the info i needed on some of the sites. <img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':angry:'>

Ummm no to all of your questions. You CAN play without a commander but your team will be dead in a matter of minutes.

Sure you can, if you want to live on only the ammo you have in your LMG clip, that's it. You NEED a commander to get better weapons, turrets, ammo, health, etc.

The commander is an integral part of the marine team. He issues the weapons, he coordinates the teamplay-reliant marines, he places new buildings, he manages the resources.

Playing without of him will be like playing a multiplayer map alone.

Let me tell you the functions the commander preforms and you make a guess.

The commander places buildings, this includes the infantry portal (which you need to respawn) all the factories, (required for better weapons) turrets, and research buildings (which obviosly allow upgrades to weapons and armor)

A marine always spawns with a pistol, an LMG, and a knife, I he wants\needs any thing else (HMG, Shottie, GL) he needs the Commander to drop it for him, Commander also drops ammo (or the building that makes ammo) and medkits.

The Commander cooridnates the marines, which they need to stand against the stronger aliens.

I'd say the whole point of being a Marine is to have a commander, so you can be L33T... okay, maybe not the <i>whole</i> point, but pretty close.

hmm you say the commander dropps the weapons and such for the marine?

so that means that he can drop a hmg bout 60meters from a bunch of marines and they all run like de-headed chickens fighting eachothers like gorillaz in the mating season trying to be the first one to get it?

i am getting afraid of what the public matches can turn out to be..

We had a 5v5 game last weekend where the command station was taken out after about 10 min. We had an ammo dispenser deployed, a couple of shottys handed out, and a few turrets, but little else. We thought all was lost and that we had no chance. But the game went on for another 20-30 minutes and the marines eventually won! Without a cmdr you really have to remember where you died and left that shot gun on the floor. Its also more scary not having "big brother" watching over your. (Health please).
