Is It Possible To Change The Hud Color?

KombotKombot Join Date: 2003-03-01 Member: 14198Members

I want to know how to
I want to be able to change the alien and marine HUD colors. I can change the upper HUD, but I can't figure out how to change the color of the HP, and armour numbers.

I used search, and I found a few things, but they were really old, and all the links and pics were dead.

The hud is generic, and is used for both aliens and marines, and the color changed by the game somehow, so I can't just replace the sprites with colored ones.

Any help would be greately appreciated, thanks

Woah... does this mean the crosshair can be changed?
I'd -love- to have my hud turned red! I remember in 1.0 I changed it to red, but ingame it appeared pink.

What's the numbers for red? Anybody happen to know?

If it is cl_hudcolour it would end up being RBG values, to 255

so red would be cl_hudcolour 255 0 0, or some variant to make it light-red or something

the reason it turned pick I think is that the HUD sprites were colored red, and the game then colored them blue, red plus blue equals purple/pink color.

that console command is not recognised, so it aint much use. but the values where the xxx xxx xxx are, are rgb values. So to get pure red, you would put 255 0 0.

Thanks for the help, but does anyone else know anything?

To my personal 'sprite editing' abilities (which is limited, to say the least), everything in the HUD (except for generated text, and items common to both sides, such as Health, Armor, and Ammo) can be easily changed to any color you want, as demonstrated in the following exhibits.

Exhibit A: Marine HUD (top section)

Exhibit B: Crosshair Sample (only the LMG is being shown here, although any crosshair can be changed)

    Awsome!!
I always wanted a red hud like that.

Also, why I think it turned pink might be because of the transparancy as you mentioned, and the gamma. Doesn't really matter now, though, seeing as I can change the pretty thing

Merde... neither cl_hudcolor nor cl_hudcolour worked.

Verthandi, I also found out how to change the text at the top there from blue to any color, it is in the 1024_textscheme.txt file (or whatever resolution you run at)

but what I really want to know, as stated in my original post, is how to change the color of armor/hp sprites!!

The ability to change the hud colour with a client-side variable needs to be coded into the mod - it's not a standard feature. It looks like the only way to do it would be to edit the sprites to the colour you want.

Mous, since both teams use the same sprites, plus the game colors them, I think coloring the sprites would not have the desired effect

Well, hmmf, they should make it so the aliens and marines use different hud sprites that way not only could they be customised, but the aliens and marines could have text styles more befitting of each species....

I'm assuming you have Sprite Viewer and Sprite wiz. Open all the 640hudx.spr files in your sprites directory. Save them to BMPs and open them in photoshop. Goto Image -> Mode... -> Color Table. You will probably see all black, and then the last 2 colors in the color table are blue. I'm not sure what the difference between the color #255 and #256 are, someone might know this. Anyway by editing these colors you can change the ingame color, forever.

didn't really work well for me. I used Adjust Color instead.
Changing the last 3 colors on the palette didn't change much. Only the text on the HE and Flashbang grenades.

sigh, nothing you do to the sprite itself will work properly, since the sprite is used for both teams. if you color it green for instance and you join marines you get a very bluey green color, and if you join alien you get a very yellowy green color.

I was hoping that there was a text file or something somewhere that specified the color that the game chooses dor each teams HUD. Maybe I should just email Flayra, he might be the only on with the answer
