I was calling around the Local Video game stores, and non of them had Half-Life, so I called London Drugs, and I was questioned with 2 types of games, non being the original Half-Life, these were the Game names:
Blue Shift

Opposing Force

Can anyone of these patch with Natural Selection? Or do I need the original Half-Life.

Comments
opposing force will not work, and blue shift is just a mod for half life.
CS Retail is a <i>stand alone</i> game which cant be used to play NS
CS the mod is an add-on for Half life. If you have Half life you can play the mod and NS
HL is Half Life, (of course,) and is AKA
-->Half Life (Orange box)
-->HL Gamer's Edtion (Blue box? Contians Blueshift, Opposing force, +the usual. 4cd case)
-->HL GOTY Edition (Orange also I think. Contains more maps and bits n bobs.)
You can buy the normal-orriginal-no-frills Half Life <a href='http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3043820497&category=11047' target='_blank'>here</a>.
EDIT: Oh yeah. For 99p. It is an eBay auction.
I believe you mean CAN be used to play NS
Just to avoid confusion =)
DOD retail is also supposed to work with NS I think but I dunno if it does yet
Or have I just been away for so long that evil gnomes have taken over the world and NS dosen't work on anything except quake 3 nowadays ?
Can someone comfirm that?
Though as I said I might have been away for to long and have made up stuff to myself
hehe
Counterstrike\Day of defeat retail - £15 STAND ALONE NOT ALL MODS
OpFor £8 NEEDS HALF LIFE
Blueshift £8 STAND ALONE WITH HIGH DEFINITION MODELS FOR OP FORCE HL AND BLUE SHIFT
Cs\dod modification - free, 1 hour down load.
What do you think is better?
But im not dling it, because I tried to once, and then I found out, I needed half-life.
I didn't see page 2. Hee hee. Now I feel like a n00b...
Half-Life is the original game. Counterstrike, Day of Defeat, Blue Shift, Opposing Force, Natural Selection, Team Fortress Class, Science and Industry, The Opera, The Specialists etc. etc. are all modifications of Half-Life (or "mods"). Opposing Force and Blue Shift are "official expansion packs", and all the rest are made by groups of people who just wanted to make cool games. Except for OpFor and Blue Shift, you can download ANY Half-Life mod for free, and they'll work with the original game.
However, when Valve realised how insanely popular CS is they decided to take it under their wing and sell it as a product in itself. Same thing with Day of Defeat now. To be perfectly frank, you'd be getting ripped off to buy these (well, maybe they cost less than Half-Life itself, I don't know). You can download CS, DoD, NS and any other third party mod for free, and play them with original Half-Life. I strongly suggest you get a hold of Half-Life itself, and not retail DoD or CS. That way you get singleplayer Half-Life itself, as well as getting all the rest for free.
By the way, any box which says "also includes Team Fortress Classic!" is just a marketing ploy. Included with the latest version of Half-Life are Team Fortress Classic, Ricochet, and Deathmatch Classic, for free. They're all mods made by Valve, and everyone who has Half-Life automatically has them, since the latest patches install them.
However, slicing some heads in Richochet can be quite relaxing after being pumped full of LMG ammo by that lucky marine who caught you on an off day.
