Scent Of Fear

What does it do any why is it good?
I hear people always say "Pheramones suck compared to SoF". Now, from it's description I thought SoF sucked. I figured cloaking was what the Sens chamber was all about.

So... what does SoF do and why's it good? I'm sure I'm not the only one that's confused about this.

In 1.04, Cloaking was the only upgrade an Alien would EVER get. Scent of Fear would track hurt enemies, and Pheromones didn't exist.

In 2.0, Pheromones leaves a puff of something behind the Marine for about 7 seconds.
In 2.0, Scent of Fear is like Motion Tracking, except you can see them when they're still, thus being superior to Pheromones.

As many people put it--Why would you want to see where they were... when you can see where they are?

SOF shows you where rines are in proximity... via hive sight as red dots....

    Each upgrade extends the range....

Much like motion tracking.. cept it shows even non moving marines... GREAT for ambushing

It's motion sensing for aliens. AKA: Wallhack. You see people coming around corners, and can prepare ambushes for them, or if you hear the stomping of HA and there are five red swirlies coming your way, get your measily self out of there and help set up defenses with the rest of your team. It also makes it very hard to miss seeing anyone as you make your way around the map. If someone is hiding, you'll know where they are.

It's actually a pretty nice ability, and along with cloaking, still gives the aliens a reason to go for sensory. DCs and MCs are nice, but SCs are still semi-feasable as chambers. They do force the commander to expand slowly to allow for sensory sweeps and spending an extra 20 res each time he puts down a turret farm.

So it has nothing to do with sensing if Marines are hurt? That's kinda weird. Since the description says it does and it's called "Scent of Fear".

That statement is so true... it's been outdated ever since 1.0

It was still useful for fades in 1.04, even though it required the marines to be damaged. I would bilebomb marines who are hiding around corners, attempting to ambush me. Spray a little bile around, and they get revealed. 2.0 marines don't really get that false sense of security anymore, and bilebomb doesn't kill marines, so it's use has changed quite a bit.

I thought I heard somewhere that the colour of the pheremones changes with the marines health.

Green = Healthy marine, Yellow = Injured marine and Red = Near dead marine.

Gonna go try it now, would be cool if it did. Would be able to see which marines are hurt then spore them, muhahhahahahaha *chokes on spores*
