1.04 Mods/servers

In my opinion, NS is in a worse state than it has ever been before... the game play has been ruined and its no longer fun, I'd like to play 1.04 again. Does anyone know any mods that allow you to run 1.04 and servers that use the mod regularly?

Uh, yea, there are still 1.04 servers out there, just reload ns 1.04 (if u were smart, u had the 2.0 install back up 1.04) and play some old skewl NS.

Go get All Seeing Eye to find these, and, well, yea....

Yea, I gotta try connecting to a 1.04 server to try to remember what it was like.

And shame on those of you being so inconsiderate to briDge, everyone has their own prefferences for different things, and you should not be biased against someone just because his/hers is different form yours. Although I am still more supportive of 2.0 as well (so much mroe fun for aliens).

Well said Semper.

Unlike most of the people around here, briDge actually specifically stated that it was his opinion.... more often than not you just get a "this sux" which *does* get up my nose. I, personally, really appreciate when someone expresses their dislike properly and not just generalising.

briDge is perfectly entitled to no enjoy NS 2.0 just as much as any of you (or I) enjoy it.

So, lay off the guy(/gal) and if you're a like minded person with a 1.04 server running then pass on the IP please.

I too have been wondering if there are any 1.04 servers out there. 2.0 is nice and all, but I really miss the epic battles over the second hive that would easily last an hour. Taking down a hive, whether alien or marine, just doesn't seem to have the same feeling of accomplishment anymore..... So I'd be really interested in finding some IP's to go play 1.04 on as well.

1.04 was nice in the beginning. We had fun battles and all, but in the end the was way too much jp rushes. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'>

I love bugfixes that are introduced in 2.0 tough game isn't in balance.

As I see comments about 2.0 it seems to me like reading again posts in beta forum when beta testing started. Testers were complaining because 1.04 tactics didn't work and everyone remembered way things were.

But guess what, world changes.

I see these changes to be good. After 2.x arrived there has been few stuck-issues compared to 1.x. There is hardly any jittering when crouching at the top of RT.

I love 2.0 and I am not afraid to say it. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>

Who's glorifying? He/She is perfectly entitled to have an opinion, and, subject to the forum rules, also perfectly entitled to express that opinion.

The key difference here of course, as compared with your example, is that briDge expressly stated that it was a personal opinion/preference instead of stating it as fact which is what the balance threaders generally do.

I suggest a re-read of these forums rules as a good starting point. Pay particular attention to the bits that state that you're not to personally attack other members.

Well, I disagree that 1.04 is more fun. JP rushes and hive lockdowns just got a bit stale, but to each their own; probably depends who you play with anyway. I'm quite liking 2.01d right now, and looking forward to 2.1 in the future. Still, I do actually like the fact that some servers play older versions because sometimes I just like to go back and remind myself of what the game used to be like. I had quite a good time playing on a 1.0 server the night before 2.0 was released. I've played since the 1.0 release, but I was still amazed at how much I'd forgotten about the previous iterations of the game. The first time I tried to get ammo from an upgrading armory... oh yeah, that took me back. Accidentally step on a phase-gate? Oops.

The game has, in my opinion, become better with every release. But if you like 1.04, I suggest getting a server browser that allows you to filter based on the version of the game. While I don't use it in general, ASE shows around 12 servers that run it:

2.0 still needs some teaks, but I beleive its a vast improvement over 1.04.
