maximum # keys in use at one time
I was playing last night and for some reason my weapons would not switch in some instances, so when I wanted to change from leap to bite, I would continue to leap. When I wanted to change from blink to slash, I would continue to blink. Finally I figured it out...

I was holding down the +crouch key and my forwards key at the same time. Whenever I would try to change weapons, from slot 2 to slot 1, it simply wouldn't work. Interestingly enough, I could still use my mouse for jumping, firing... and I could also hold down more than one direction key to move diagonally. But I simply couldn't change the slots for some reason.

My binds were:

y - forward
h - backward
t - slot1
j - slot2
c - crouch

that's all that is actually relevant

When I held down y and c, it became impossible for the t button to work. Then I changed my binds and shifted everything over to the left

t - forward
g - backward
r - slot1
y - slot2
x - crouch

And everything worked fine.

Does anyone know exactly why this happens? It is an annoying problem, as I now have to change my binds to accomodate this keyboard anomaly.

This is actually a problem with your keyboard. Because of the way they're designed, some key combinations just don't work. Normally you don't use the combinations when typing, but they can show up in games.

generally with most keyboards you have the main processor chip (iniside the keyboard) that usually has 28 inputs (i think thats how many anyway cant quite remeber) but when you press a key it connects 2 of these so the computer knows what your doing (each key is like a square with a conection in 2 corners when you press down they become one and send the single voltage to the chip across 2 of the pins) so for instance key "a" may use pins 1 and 2 now if key "b" uses 2 and 3 there is no way for your computer to work it out so it sticks with the orginal key and ignores the second one.

so basically as said above certain key configurations just dont work i just thought i would try and explain the theory. (probably failed and made you more confused, sorry if i have)

No, two-button combinations don't always block third or fourth or fifth button presses. Just certain combinations on the keyboard. On mine, for example, I couldn't press t with c and y already pressed. I'm going to go by what Max said, that it is a keyboard design problem.

Are there any 'gamer' keyboards that don't do this? I have a generic windows keyboard at the moment. Planning to get a new one soon.

    This happens in many games.

Some keyboards have issues recgonizing 3 button presses at once....

    Most keyborads are fine

thats what i was trying to explain basically with the keyboard having 28 pins if you pick the right keys (if possible) you would be able to press 14 buttons at once i have a keyboard map of my chip inside my keyboard but most keys use the same numbers limiting your maximum to about 4 keys in most situations. unless you want to press keys all over the keyboard lol. for example ill have walk forward as w, backwards as o, left as n, so on lol. not gonna work really .
