but don't know where to start
I'm aware of a site (which shall not be named or linked to) which is acting as a public download mirror for many games, most of them freeware or demos. However, they do offer a free download of a full CD-rip (minus movies) of System Shock 2.
I don't even own the game, and from other people's word of mouth and the demo I know its the sort of classic I should pay for and play. The demo alone put that idea in my head, the game's worth buying, no-brainer. I'm fairly certain other people have thought this as well, and for sure most of them have not had the same moral dilemma as me about whether to touch the file.
I want to get these guys to stop promoting the game as having been "abandoned" by its publisher, and get them to remove their public download link for it. Easiest way I can think of is to show them that a big-name store still carries it on the shelves, so it's still making (some) money. I did this for a similar site by showing them that I had paid EBworld $10 for a pack of 3 games in the X-Com series, and they did remove their link for X-Com UFO defense, so I've got my hopes up about this System Shock 2 problem.
Except now I don't know where to look for big-name stores still carrying it. I'm asking all of you who paid your good money for the game: where can I get it now? (Both to show the info to this site and to buy it for myself)

Hope that helps!
The fact is that System Shock 2 didn't do very well and because of that And perhaps a few other factors Looking Glass Studios also died. And System Shock 2 got discontinued. The only place you can really buy it now is Ebay.
System Shock 2 was a classic, one that didn't sell well. Much like Startopia, Body Harvest and FAKK 2.
Tell me though, is System Shock 1 abandonware?
SS2 is a LOT more popular now that it was 3 years ago, but finding a copy can be hard, I pre-order it originaly (Sep 1999).
But yeh Ebay is probably the only place youl find a copy, try a few trad in places.
Amazon don't count as a big store? I figured they were the biggest international online store in existance.... Oh well.
got lots of fun last time with the other doods...
just contact EA .. i think they will handle that
I'm not sure why ss2 didn't sell so well but I doubt it was due to downloading as it was released in 99(?), before broadband became widely available. I've seen one or two copies for sale in some places under the EA classic range, but thats just old stock as it's nolonger in "print".
I remembered download System Shock 1 from "that site". Looking at it now, it's been taken down there, but System Shock 2 is downloadable there. I didn't feel like playing the first one, didn't feel like taking the time to learn those oh so many controls that weren't customizeable...
"The Site" u talk about is very well know and the owner takes every care not to get his site shut down from companys and the government, all his games are either freeware or at least 3-5 years old as such not many companys still make games that old with the expection of HL as thier not profitable.
Games have a very short sale life 1-3 years after about 3 years they become non profitable and are stopped being made, HL is the big expection its engine is out of date but the amount of mods make the game keep its sale life.
Games themselves become out of date but thier "type" dont EG Tomb Raider/Res Evil. They give them a lick of paint and they carry on being a cash cow for the company.
Her.

half price books is a nice USED book store, they carry music and games too, but i doubt you bought a new copy, so that one wouldnt count.
