It Is Possible To Win As A Marine In Ns_veil

But its still hard....
Today i was the commander in my fav server, it started 3 on 3 at first, so we relocated to the double res node area, amazingly dispite how many times we died... we were able to get more people to join for both teams... everyone stood together with each other and got res nodes... i was able to get every upgrade.. heavy armor, jet packs, HMGs and GLs.... Phase gates, sieges, Motion... level 3 weapons and armor.... every time though the aliens would do a major attack to either the south hive we took out with our sieges or the marine base, as soon as i said "EVERYONE GET IN THE PHASE GATE ASAP WERE UNDER ATTACK" They would actually do it! i couldnt believe it.. lol

But anyways the aliens had all 3 hives... we were able to take all 3 hives out.. 1st with sieges... 2nd and 3rd with just massive HMG, GL, and Shotgun ownage.....

Of course the aliens unlike the marines usually... were being quitters... it was 8 on 8 but half the aliens f4... thankfully though that server took out the forfeit rule... so we actually got to finish the game right... but still....

Everyone one of us *including myself cause i got out to finish 3rd hive since we had everything* we all were heavies... =)

I'm still in a positive ratio for wins/losses on veil, positive for wins, of course.

I comm on it a lot. I never take double res... not until I can siege it or we've secured a hive. I like taking subsector, seems like skylights and overlook are easier to defend than analysis and emergency nozzle.

if you don't get caught up on doubleres (and let the aliens obsess over it), and you move fast, veil is actually pretty easy to win on.

the problem i see with veil and marine losing res towers like nuts is the fact that

    1) there are too many vents (god they're everywhere i tell ya)
    2) the more closer to marine spawn ones (the ones u actually WANT to close) cannot be welded shut (ie: west skylight vent)
a gorge can bile bomb that base hands down.......and no matter how u place turrets.....the gorge can bile bomb it..... unless u get a GL ...but really...a res right beside marine spawn and its so hard to defend...its like it needs its own marine guard or something

o_O Grats on finishing off the aliens! Sounds like you had a round similar to my (only) victory on Tanith. The round started out small, and the aliens never really got their act together (group onos rush?? Only happened once to me, and I heard them comin').

As for the anti-forfeit rule.. I played a server that took it out, too. I thought it was rather lame.. 4 v 8? 3 v 10? C'mon, this isn't supposed to be like that. The aliens gave up, they admitted they were pwned. You can mock them anyways, no need to siege the last hive. I'm betting my marines might have been more frustrated than I was; I was too busy dropping medpacks, and siegeguns to notice what was going on.

The trick to NS_veil is knowing you can siege out the double resnode... from ms.

That's one victory. How many victories did aliens have on that map? One great story still doesnt change the basic facts.

There are three ways to win with marines.
    1. Rush
    2. Upgrade heavy armor quickly and attack hives with sieges one by one.
    3. Base defence, makes aliens bore and let them press F4

It's easy to win on ns_veil as long as you grab one hive, siege nano (from main base), and constantly hunt down alien res nozzles. It's easy to deny aliens rez in veil.

West skylight it ridiculously easy to protect from ventboys. Simply don't TF in the res room. EXPAND past it to the other entrance of the vent, and build your defence there.

Seriously folks, turret farming single RTs doesnt work, you need to expand and farm chokepoints. Otherwise aliens are going to keep finding holes.

Here's my tactic for Veil. It's almost always successful if they don't start in 5B Access. If they do, lock down "Hive - The Pipeline" instead. I typically stay away from this hive at the start since it's dark enough for skulks to ambush.

Get your IP and Armory up, have the rest of your team run to Western Skylights and get the Res Node there. Have one person stay behind to defend the RT. Drop a welder in base and have them weld those two vents shut in those little inlets in your base.

Have your team proceed south, capture the node on the overlook. Have the person in your base build a TF.

Have the team go further south to Sub-Sector 5B Access. Cap the node there, have your squad LMG defend that area for now. Have the man in base build a few turrets. Get an observatory up if you can.

Have someone who's in base go to the eastern node at "Topographical Analysis." Research phase tech.

Drop a phase gate in base and at the hive. Electrify your nodes.

Farm up the hive with sentries and have someone stay and watch it.

Now, at one of those vents you previously welded shut, build a turret factory, advance it, and get two or three sieges up. Aliens had most likely took NanoGrid Status (double nodes), so you'll just be cleaning the area out.

Move your guys into NanoGrid Status. Cap both of the nodes there. If everything has gone according to plan, you should have 7 nodes now, and probably have destroyed a good amount of alien structures when you sieged out NanoGrid. From here on, it's cake.

Clearing out Nanogrid from marine start is sheer ownage.

veil is a nice restower battle.
You need organisated groups that stick together on 2 different places.
    Its an absolute teamwork map.
When you dont look for a location for 10 minutes you lost it for sure.
