The Best "classic" Cartoon Series

<div class="IPBDescription">Discuss</div> In my opinion, the best classic cartoon of all time has to be...

Transformers.

The ORIGINAL transformers, before they killed off optimus prime.

Why? Well, it seems to have stuck in my head the most. After an excess of ten years I still get shivers up my spine whenever I remember one of the old episodes (I havent seen Transformers for more then 10 years, damn TV wont rerun it).

To this day I still remember such charecters as Optimus Prime, the moral and ethical compass to follow, Megatron, his alter ego, equal and opposite, completely amoral, and starscream, the seemingly loyal, yet insidious and power hungry lietenant to megatron. He was my favorite because he had the guts to oppose megatron even if he was worse.

Now dont get me wrong. I dont discount other fairly good classics like Scooby Doo, Inspector Gadget, The Smurfs and a whole bunch of others that my sleep deprived addled mind cannot think of at the moment.

So, anyway, whats the classic cartoon that in your opinion stands out from the rest and shows itself to be the best? Discuss.

Sorry, but I feel this is more fit for the Off-Topic discussion section. I mean, don't tell me you take the quality of a cartoon as serious as, say, the gentech debate <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I'm a year or two too young to have caught on to Transformers in it's prime (pun intended), so I grew up on Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Ghostbusters.
TMNT had a distinct moral to each episode, and the four turtles ranged from serious to party-animal and still worked well as a team, complementing each other's strengths and weaknesses.
I didn't even see the Ghostbusters movies until much later, but the original TV series was great. I don't remember ever being scared of the dark, beasties under the bed, or the toilet and bathtub drains, and a large part of it was because the show "taught" me that whatever I was afraid of was controllable (if not with my mind alone, then with the super-cool product line of wearable ghost-busting equipment)

    Agreed.
Pre-movie it was excellent. The movie wasn't bad but killing off Megatron was a huge mistake, Galvy just didnt have the same charm. Of course I havn't seen any episodes for a while, (/me starts up kazaalite and Edonkey) but I'm sure it's not just nostalgia. Beast Wars/Machines was pretty good too, same can't be said for the new Armarda/Robots in disguise series though.
    X-E rocks for that kinda stuff <a href='http://www.x-entertainment.com/' target='_blank'>Clickeh</a>

I have to say Transformers, but that's because I was too young to understand ExoSquad when it was originally on.

If I had a grasp of just how great ExoSquad was when it was on, that would definitely be it. But the plot was just too complex for my 7 year old self to understand.

Anyway, I rather disliked Thundercats... it was just a little too "hero's win because they're the good guys" of the old type of super hero cartoons...

SWAT KATS was good... now if only more people would build a highly capable fighter jet out of their junkard...

WOW. That flipped on some neurons that'd been inactive for well over a decade.

I don't even remember what the show was about, but I remember the theme song.

Darkwing Duck was brilliant - it paved the way, at least in my mind, for the glory that was the Tick animated series.
Looney Tunes was and continues to be awesome, in particular the Bugs Bunny cartoons.

    Transformers, has to be.

For a time, I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron.... but now.... you shall witness...... it's DISMEMBERMENT!!

    <a href='http://www.claws-and-paws.com/thundercats/index.php' target='_blank'>http://www.claws-and-paws.com/thundercats/index.php</a>

Thundercats outtakes are funny, there's a ton of them online. Expect a "sommoflange" on your NS soon.

Anyone mentioned Dungeons and Dragons yet? Centurions? I'm glad noone said Captain Planet.

X-Men. The older kind. But not the OLD OLD kind where Cyclops has that covering over his head.
