Awww yeeaahh
This one's for you, Communist with a gun...

FF Demo - 75MB

Pretty darned fun, and great atmosphere. Very Red Dawn meets Brooklyn. And you get to slaughter commies by the yard. Can be a bit difficult to finish since there's no save, but don't give up: you're fighting the stinking reds for America!

Do I get to ride a bomb down from the bottom of a B-52 ?

Dr. Strangelove will be dissapointed if not.

Hmm...is this the game I've been hearing about on Duck and Cover? Yes it is.
/me downloads demo
Hmm...says the final game allows you to recruit up to 12 fighters. With a max that low this sounds like it could be just my style...

[edit]Ooh, almost forgot. Thanks for telling us, MonsE

I'm downloading it now. It screams propoganda, but then again its deserved. I REALLY loved the soviet campaign in red alert 2.....BWHAHAHAH

/edit Erm....Well its interesting. It looks good....graphically. You can imagine the first thing I tried to do was kill my AI friends LOL sadly they wouldnt die.... 10 molotov cocktails and 10 frag grenades later I stopped trying I wont be buying it sadly because its made by EA.

/edit2 Thanks Monse.

Just beat it after 3 tries, pretty easy to get into despite the lack of a quicksave, intro/how-to, or options menus for keyboard configuration (you can't configure keys, period). It seemed like it was made for the console player rather than the PC, but I liked it quite a bit. Weapons were a bit wonky (AK has a set lack of accuracy no matter how much you are or aren't moving) but I liked the team AI, loved how easy it was to give orders that the teammates actually listen to, I liked the atmosphere, and appreciated the fact that team members can be healed back to normal without the problem common to some other games:"aw, ****, now I have to restart the level because that guy was the only one who could <insert action required for mission success here."

Favorite part: storming the vehicle depot before the post office. First sniped the people who looked like ranking officers, then switched back to my AK and ran downstairs. Slapped the "scout ahead/attack" key 3 times (once for each squadmate), had them provide a distraction for my run to a machine gun emplacement, and then I layed down covering fire for them while they took out the rest of the commies...er...OpFor hiding behind their cover. The only scripted sequence I could tell in the entire level was the helicopter. If the rest of the game is as good as that one vehicle depot scene, it's most definitely getting my money.

Alright, on another play-through my opinions have been refined a bit.
The first few times I tried and beat it, I forgot about the secondary objective. When I did do it, I noticed it said "charisma +25" and an orange progress bar appeared. If this game has roleplaying elements as well, that's one more reason for me to love it.
[edit]Another good thing: I was wonderig why the music style seemed familiar. Turns out it was composed by Jesper Kyd, same guy who did the amazing soundtrack to Hitman 2. /me reminds self I still need to find a store that sells the Hitman 2 soundtrack[/edit]

Problem, though: enemy reinforcements when you get to some points are a *tad* more scripted than I thought. I tried doing the vehicle depot assault again, and this time neglected to snipe someone who I later found shooting into my back while I was happily firing away from my machine gun emplacement. When I tried to get away from the MG to take care of him, I clipped into the "floor" (really through the roof of whatever vehicle/storage container the MG was placed on) and couldn't get out.

Other things I need to try:
1. Still haven't seen if friendlies can use MGs. There's 3 to be used at that location, so having the shotgun user assault while 3 MG's cover him would be sweet. [edit]My memory was bad. There's only 2 up there. But I did get friendlies to use them -- see my post below.[/edit]
2. I saw an enemy vehicle patrolling outside the other side of the post office. Haven't tried attacking it or sneaking around it, so I don't know what else is in that area. Also haven't tried using the rocket launcher on it (rocket launcher works fine on helicopter)

Don't believe the hype, CWAG.

Communism has butchered over 100,000,000 people.

Marxism is a failure, don't believe me look at Russia and Cuba, Cuba can do business with any other country besides the US. and is a rich Island. Also a state of apartheid exists and Black Cubans are excluded from any cooshy party jobs.

YCL, the frount page is full of lies and propaganda,

In communism there is no union...since everythings ran by the state. fight the state...die
Racism:see Cuba
Immigrant Bashing:ummm last time i checked no one from Mexico was going to a communist country.
No Homophobia: if your ****, your outcasted from any job.
No more prisons: They are called "labor camps" get it right.
No police brutality: because they shoot you, no bruitality involved.
No Pollution: because federal air quaility is increaseing in the US alone.

.. um, what? Okay, that's nice. What? Oh yeah, your post still doesn't make any sense. What?? This has to do with the game how? Where, why?

[ontopic]I'm tempted to download the game, but I think I'll wait till I get my tasty T1 connection and a few more reviews.[/ontopic]

Alright, played through it again and learned a few new things.

1. Holding down the key for an order for longer than just a tap will give the order to the entire squad. Very useful for calling them to regroup.
2. Friendlies can use MGs. Most success I had with this was by walking within "press e to use machinegun" range and giving an individual the "hold position/defend" command. Getting the exact member you want seems to be random, but after enough tries I managed to get the lady with the mp5 and the guy with the AK on the MGs, and had them hail fire over me and the shotgunner as we moved in.
3. All AI can see and run away from thrown grenades. Me and my shotgunner were hiding behind crates while I tried throwing molotov cocktails and grenades to get at 3 enemies taking cover the same way. They obviously can't run from an instant-explode molotov, but I saw two guys literally run out of their cover and hit the deck when I successfully threw a grenade among them. The third went flying.
4. They have grenades too. Learned this the hard way when the guys I was throwing grenades at returned the favor. My shotgunner said "Look out! They threw a --" *boom*. Knocked him unconscious, but it gave me a laugh and enough warning to run away like he did.
5. Healing up an unconscious friendly uses up a medkit. This stopped my laughing from point 4 and made the CQB at the first floor of the post office a bit harder because I needed to get a medkit from there to heal him up.
6. Don't tell your friendlies to try attacking the patrolling vehicle. Don't tell them to hold position anywhere near it. The patrolling isn't a one-time scripted event, it's also got AI that tries to run your friendlies over. Does a pretty nice job of it, too.
7. Grenades work best on this vehicle from underneath. This makes an exception to point 6: if you call a friendly over towards you, the vehicle will try and run him over (duh). Chuck a grenade at your friend's feet and run away. That plus a "regroup" command to him will be sufficient reason for him to run the heck away, and the vehicle will already be moving towards his previous point. Funny stuff seeing the thing lifted a few feet in the air.
8. Use the rocket launcher on the helicopter before it shoots you. If you missed all 3 times or used the rocket launcher on the vehicle, then wait long enough for its patrol script to have it fly out of view. It'll come back, but it'll give you time to hoist the flag up. You don't want to have the thing see you. If it sees you, it'll aim. When it aims, it'll shoot. And when it shoots, it hurts. Plenty.

I hate the asdw controls. I refuse to use anything but my beloved arrow keys! and shift, control, enter, \ and delete and stuff...but my hands are probably larger than most people. (Go Xbox controller!).

On the subject of communism, it should be noted that no actual communist nation has ever appeared. In true communism there is no leader. There's 2 stages and no one has ever gotten past the first (Sounds like a video game when I say it like that).

I forget hall it all works, but suffice it to say, true communism has yet to be achieved on earth...Everyone seems to think it's all sickle and hammer, red red red, down with democracy...but that's now what it's supposed to be.

[edit] even though I despise the asdw controls, I played it a little. Could be fun if the controls weren't horrible. I'll have to try it if it comes to XBox for a rent. [edit]
