when are they gonna scoop up NS?
they did it first for CS then for DOD. and if any mod deserves it i think NS does. it really stepped it up for halflife mods and the game design is groundbreaking IMO.

plus i like to see greatness and hard work recognized. and it would guarentee NS moving to the HL2 engine.

If valve scooped it up we would end up waiting longer for updates, just like cs 1.6.... But it would be good for further input from them. I would prefer it to stay independant but if valve did take it on then at least the designers would get some money for their hard work.

Flayra has stated that he is investigating retail options for NS. It's now one of the aims of NS I believe to get it out onto the shelves. Although this will mean vast numbers of new players, it will also mean Flayra finally gets some fiscal benefits from NS, which considering the amount of time and money he's poured into it, is a real good thing. I'm sure the poor guy is tired of paying his rent with Constellation funds As to when it would happen, only the devs know that. Hey, it's Flayra's choice! Personally, retail level is a very professional level, much more complicated than you (SemperFi) and I can imagine. I would be darned proud to have this mod on shelves. We all deserve it. Isn't that the dream after all? Isn't that worth fighting for? Isn't that worth dying for? *Triumphant music swells.

They would take out the lmg and give the marines a AWP, and would also turn the aliens into terrorists. *(im still bitter about DOD)
• MrMojoMrMojo Join Date: 2002-11-25 Member: 9882Members, Constellation
That depends on how popular it would be. Not that many people would buy it ( most already dled it for free a looong time ago), but a small amount would see it on a shelf and go ooh. Since Valve obviously doesnt want bad sales, it will try to change things to make people more attracted to NS, not realizing that most of the people wouldnt pay for something they got free.
• PodPod Join Date: 2002-11-03 Member: 5745Members
as opposed to DOD and CS which where always free?

anyway its far to late to ship now :/
why spend months shipping a game on a 5year old engine? when the new ones down the road

Exactly. DOD v3.1 or whatever the last version was before retail was such an excellent game. Now DoD is a pathetic PoS.

Ah, such nostalgia when I remember the days of having 200+ kills on dod_caen2. That game was fun.

Also, yeah. Flayra is looking in to retail options for NS. I bet that, if he could, he would probably license an engine and use that, instead of HL! If he had the funding.... *foams at the mouth*

don't let valve scoop it up at all, they screwed DoD over with high cpu usage and low frame rates.

not a good thing.

Frankly, I doubt Valve will pick up NS. They've already bought CS and DoD, and are still mired (in my opinion, "mired" is the correct word for it) in the whole CS:CZ thing. With HL2 around the corner, continuing to push their HL1 engine doesn't seem very worthwhile; I think the next mod they'll pick up will be a HL2 mod at some point in the not-very-near future.

The changes that occurred to DoD were not exclusively a result of Valve's input. Change was a two way street. Valve to suggest and the DoD devs to allow. People make the false assumption that just because NS might end up in a retail box means that Valve would gain some level of demonic power in the future of NS. Making a retail deal like this requires a certain level of negotiation between Flay and Valve, the final product of which is unknown. Negotiation because Valve's level of input and influence is subject to Flay's terms in any deal that might get made. Being as no deal has been made, and no one knows the details of said deal because it doesn't ****ing exist, then speculation that Valve will "ruin" NS is nothing short of a load of BS spewing from people's pieholes.

Flayra seems much more interested in getting NS to a peak state than making money off of it. It's his hobby, not his job. If NS gets puts into a box sometime after Flayra is really happy with it (and he's not done yet), there won't be much damage to be done by long patch cycles or whatever.

CS isn't done even now. Valve and the other CS developers are still working on the whole anti-cheat thing.

There are so many rumors going around about Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero right now that it’s impossible to really separate fact from fiction. When asked about the rumored Half-Life 2 delay in a recent interview, Gabe Newell merely answered, "no comment," which means... well, "no comment." Nobody has solid official word on anything. We have no idea when either game will ship and any release date estimates you see are just that: estimates. Yeah, it's a little bit frustrating, but we're fairly certain you'll be able to play both of these games eventually (tee-hee).

My guess is, the more days that pass, the less likely it is we'll see Natural Selection on shelves. The people with real money will be interested in the potential of putting NS into HL2.

i hate CS and DOD coz your aim is not interactive enough, i hope Valve won't force NS to be the same way.
btw i don't really think the HL2 engine is really that good and i don't think it's worth porting NS to. same with Doom3. i'm gonna try to port it to another engine which i think might be better. i'll do all the code myself.

And what engine do you suggest porting it to then? The only other one I can think of is The Unreal Engine, and I heard it's not good for modding.

are you mad? have you seen the demo video demonstrating the awsome power of the HL2 engine? I have (a whopping 583 meg video) and i think that a NS like mod on that would be darn right amazing! The possible special effects i saw there blew my mind so hard I had to watch the video 4 times just to beleive it! But thats my humble opinion...

That's an intresting opinion....

As for doom 3... Im sure carmack crapped himself when the media blitz on hl2 started.

As for source... I cannot wait to work with it. The physics and facial systems are things that games have been lacking for a long time, it's the little things that matter. Also as far as the engine goes... I think it will be immensely popular because of the scaleability.

The leaked Doom 3 demo that i saw got 3 - 10 fps on a 2.2 ghz... a gig and a half of high end corsair... and 128 nvidia.....

well i had a look at the Doom3 leaked alpha demo files and gloss textures are missing. i want gloss textures! and i heard Doom3 can only run at a decent speed at 640x480 on the latest graphic card and HL2 can run at 1024x768 at a decent speed so i deduce from that that HL2's graphic engine is even crappier than Doom3's.

i don't think anyone should bother remaking NS unless it's for an engine that uses diffuse, specular, gloss and bump maps coz i want to be totally blown away.

dod beta 3.1 - Excellent, except for the **** rail gun called a kar
Dod Retail 1.0 - total shite, and nows there's 2 rail guns.

I'd rather play NS 2.0 as a marine on a pub than play dod on a pub.
