Hello to all.

I allows me to come and make a little advertisement for my map ns_alone which I have just finalized.

Far from being a map so beautiful as the official maps or those which a lot of you are able to realize, I am just satisfied to have arrived at end.

I just wanted to inform you about its release and thanks the NS community and the staff for all the work on this fabulous mod.

Thanks again to ollj for his help and to xp-cagey ( you know why!)

For the screenschots of ns_alone it's here

For the downloading, it's here 3Mo.

Good day in all.

IAN. (trying speacking english...)

Edit: zip updated because of a problem with tga's overview.
for those who have downloaded it before :the file really sorry.

I haven't got the time to download it just yet, mate, but from the screens it looks very smart. Nice shadows, lighting, copious detail... the list goes on

Nice map! Great lighting effects. And don't worry your english is understandable (i'm assuming your first language is french from your website).

Wow, that is a really good looking map. I will download this now. I like it.

Excellent man, it is looking at least as good as an average oficial map, but I think it looks even better. Now have some clans playtest it and some admins put it on their servers, because I would really like to take a look on it in-game!

Dont be so down on yourself. Thats somethin I gotta learn to. Easiest thing to do is just do what u think is good and then listen to comments. I say thats very good. It is on par with the official maps, from looking at those screens. It looks a lot better than tanith, but does it play as well. Ah, there is the question.

Your comments, your interest and your reception with my map is a great reward (?) for me, after those hard week-ends and nights working on this map.

Just many many thanks to all again.

I'm working on seeing these pictures...my cable has been crapping out in the past month, and right now 28k would be better. I'll get comments in a second, because everyone loves my comments.

Wow thats cool, you hit the lighting on the money IHMO. The hive infestion is amazing and that room with the dome overhead is fantastic. Nice job, wish I could map like that.

It's on the NTFM (Roob's) test server at the moment, as we're trying to pick new maps for the rotation. I've so far only had a chance to run around it on a LAN game, but it looks very tasty.

Please add more light! It's good to have dark nooks and crannies for atmosphere and everything, but entire hallways should never be nearly pitch black, especially not right outside the marine spawn. You've got those giant bright light fixtures out there, but they hardly seem to cast any light at all. It looks unrealistic in addition to being annoyingly dark. This is a pet peeve of mine- custom maps that make me squint a lot as I walk through them for the first time. I know, I know, you want to give skulks plenty of ambush opprotunities, but there are other ways to do this besides making it too dark to see. Skulks can hide behind things, you know. All those spare pipes and corners and panels lining the walls of your map aren't just eye candy. They can be used as cover, plus they cast shadows which can lead to dark patches, even in an otherwise well-lit hallway. (Besides which, 2,0's sensory chambers kind of make shadows obsolete. )

The detail of architecture in this map is amazing. When I noticed all that delicious detail tucked away hidden between the two main team portals, my estimation of your mapping skills immediately shot up like 150%. I suggest you add a little more light in between the portals, too, so that players abandoning one portal for the other when their favorite teams are full can enjoy all that detail without needing a flashlight. Again, if you increased light from those extremely bright white light fixtures, it would help.

    Keep up the good work!

Hey, you should try to get this into NS 2.1. Flayra is asking for maps to be included in this release (which is coming soon).
  • ssjyodassjyoda Join Date: 2002-03-05 Member: 274Members, Squad Five Blue
The deadline for that is in a month or so.
  • DriftwoodDriftwood Join Date: 2002-11-11 Member: 8245Members
Any idea what is causing this error message: Texture_LoadTGA: Only 32 or 24 bit images supported (no colormaps) It occurs when the map has loaded and results in the game crashing back to windows.

ns_alone is the only map that hasn't worked with me.

Please do not post things unless you are certain about them. Flay stated very clearly that maps aiming for 2.1 release should be ready now. So the deadline most certainly isn't in a month or so.

Thanks warpzone for your good comments. You're right. The problem is, i think, because of my monitor (OMG how can i say that in english..) i will try the map on another one to see those light problems.
For the tga problems, it was due to the overview, i made a mistake , but with the updated file of my first post it seems to be ok.

However, i've just updated the complete zip file here: ns_alone complete - 3Mo because of hives names which where missing and texture problemes at the CC. Gamma is now set to 1.8 - it was 1.7 on the first release.

If you have already download the map, you have just to update the bsp file by this way: only bsp.

About calling flayra for NS 2.1... ouch, i don't really believe that the map is as good as that i'm afraid with the answer he could give me... but, why not trying?

For the moment, the map run on one ns-fr server here in France and it seems to be ok for the gameplay. So i'm very happy.

But the things that make me more happy, is your interest and your comments, i really enjoy talking about Natural Selection and my work with you, so far from me..

I can't say how much i get pleasure reading you. Many thanks to you all.

    IAN.

    Quite cool!

Just been playing on it on sum server I can't remember what it was caleld :$ I think it might have been Twilight Eclipse.

Anyway,,, just one little niggle, when you put the maps in the zip folder could you not put the preceding 'ns' (in other words zip them relative to the ns folder, not the Half-Life folder). I have two different 'ns' folders, one for 2.0 and one for 1.0; and somehow managed to install half the files in the wrong folder
