Mirc problem

Open it and find out
I used to have Windows XP Pro and I had mIRC and it ran fine, recently though my computer crashed and I had to reformat and had to go back to Windows ME and now whenever I try to install mIRC it freezes at the last 1% of it and I have to control-alt-delete it, Does anyone else with ME have this problem?

well... ME has lots of problems
next to XP it's prolly the worst operating system MS ever made. get 98se

    or reformat and try again

really? I had heard good things about XP, though ME is certainly horrible.

    I use 2000

win XP is a relative stable operating system in comparison to their last OS ( that was ME ) but Xp has one bad bad bad shortcome.....games on XP == EVIL
they run extreeme slow in comparison to 98Se
example : CS on 98 Se : +45 fps, CS on XP : less than 14 fps

XP is fine. It is like people bitching about CS being bad, it's all in the mind. I don't mind XP at all, my games run fine, yadda

Check RR.org there is a page here about tweaking XP. It seems to help quite a bit. If you set XP up the right way you can get pretty good performance.

I have XP and the game Counter Strike runs fine. I average about 30fps, but that's just because I sacrificed some speed for higher rez.

Only thing that's bothersome is that when I select a server to play, it only shows like a quater of the screen for the game and i have to exit the server and re join to fix it.

I too am running XP [Pro], and my only gripe is that the keyboard and mouse do strange things in HL, and only HL. They seem to freeze up and stop responding for fractions of a second, but everything else runs just fine.

And as for FPS, you could do some tweaks in XP to sqeeze some more power out of it, or upgrade if you can.

XP runs fine for me in almost everything. I have 98se installed dual boot as a backup, just in case.

Longtooth: All I can think of is to redownload mIRC and try again or install 98se/XP :-D.

Ive got a similar problem in 98... Its just that the freezes happen everywhere! Not just in HL... even in windows while not running anything...
Luckily, it doesnt happen to often...

BioHAz, I have the same problem in HL running XP. It goes away after a while, I'm not sure what causes it... but I rarely have to restart XP, it doesn't crash very much at all. I enjoy it.

if your HL does strange things with your mouse and your keyboard just add "-noforcemparms" to the command line, like this:

    C:\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -game xxxxx -noforcemparms

    and everything will be ok

...Annnyway, back on track to what was actually said initally, if the mIRC installer doesn't function, then I'm sure you could get somebody to give you the files (only the directory (and the files in it, obviously) is needed to run). Alternately there's always other IRC clients, such as www.klient.com - which is vasty superiour in my opinion. There's also Trillian (haha), BitchX (oh god) and some others.
