How far can ns go?

How far can NS go I ask?

Will it become bigger than CS or will it be forgotten (I didn't want to say that but I had too ).

Yeah, i'm torn. If it stays small, it has a good community, and teamwork=awesome...

If it's big, abundance of servers, but probably a sucky community...

    Time will tell...

It will definatley go far, im thinking a little more popular than DOD, but certainly not CS distance, and im glad for that. Otherwise, we'll have an extremely immature community, almost as immature as i acted in the thread "When will ns be out?" here, since im feeling horrible about the noob bashing im even going to qoute my immature-ness

Quote

i grow weary of this topic. prepare for a verbal raping.

Another problem from CS's popularity is the over abundance of cheaters, when games are small people rarley take the time to make hacks for them and even if they do those few hacks are usually anti-cheated, the problem with CS is so many people making so many hacks that the anti-cheat programs can't keep up.

So you people would rather see a community of about the same number of servers as DoD?

I wouldn't want it to be like CS because most of the players a ignorant.

I don't want it to be a tiny community because I don't want to see a scarcity of servers.

So I would rather go with the crowd, not a ton of servers but not a scarcity of servers either.

Eos breaks XHydralisk's skull for saying things about this awesome and I might add proffesionally made mod.

scarcity of servers never seems to be the problem with most mods, it seems lots of servers go empty. It is the community that makes up a mod, and one of the reasons why I like ahl so much, even though I don't agree on where they have taken it, is because the community is fun to be around as long as you don't act too immature.

QUAD pretty much summed up my feelings about this. I sincerely hope the community doesn't get CS-scale. For every few players there is a cheater/llama, so more players means more losers. A tight-knit community can weed these people out.

I dont know, I think this mod will attract a huge croud out of the shear coolness behind what its trying to pull off. I think it could easily knock cs off its thrown. The problem with the cs community, I hope, will not be existent in the ns comunity though. CS is so impersonal and not really based around teamwork, it worked from a teamwork concept but developed into a deathmatch. The ammount of effort that seems to be put into making teamwork a reality and a must in NS, again I hope, will pay off. The gameplay in NS will make people work much closer together then in other communities. A good example of a teamwork success mod is FLF. Though its not popular the people who do play are totally friendly and the community is great. The best part is u meet new people all the time and they just pick up on the vibe the mod and the community gives off. If NS grows from its teamwork vibe and from a strong community..... good things will happen. or something. Of course thats just my optimistic view.

I don't think it will ever be as popular as CS, or even DoD. A huge amount of HL players wants nothing more than a gun and a target to point it at. NS will overstrain their brain capacity.

I'd say half the size of DoD is realistic. Then again, I'm a pessimist.

That's probably what will happen. The thing that attracted me to the mod was the screenshots. I wanted to play it soooo badly. But I've forgotten about the alien team. The players that come here with a deathmatch kind of attitude will probably find the aliens a more comfortable choice, and the team-players can get on with the game. It's actually worked out pretty well, if one can say that before the mod is even released.

Due to the flexibility of this mod, the problem is not appealing to multiple groupings of people (Marines for Team Players, Aliens for Deathmatchers, and Commander for those Oh so rare RTSers of the HL community), the real problem is doign those things well. After playing NS un peu, I am proud to say that it does do all those things well. I think the only thing that will prevent NS from rising like a . . .. rising . .. star. will be a lack of exposure. Anyone who plays it and has ever felt remotely interested in Sci-Fi or likes the idea of ripping people up and gnashign them will fall instantly in love. As long as the word is spread, the reality behinf the word will hold it's own.
I say that NS has limitless bounds. Provided we spread the word as far as we can. A mod of this quality speaks for itself and the community will notice.

I think NS will be really huge
it'll be like CS cause think of it, days before its 'official' release there will be TONS and I mean TONS of previews on every gaming website known to man and all the cheaters and llamas will notice the MOD and will give it a shot
but I do believe, that this MOD is kinda complicated, rather like Desert Crisis, which is hard to master and takes time and you actually need to RTFM so alot of llamas who seek only frags will *hopely* leave the game

This mod is the most interesting and looks to be the most fun. But I felt the same way bout existence just before that came out and look at it now. At least its starting to grow again. Im not sayin that will happen to this mod. But it is somethin to think about.

Well, I was little skeptical before (won't say why), but now that Flayra ironed out my feas by doing few simple things, I expect the first release to be nicely sized. Then once the reviews start coming in, I expect the community to grow to...well, I have no idea

I think NS will become quite popular.. not sure how fast or how slowly this will happen but it will definetly make a name for itself. NS is trying so different to everyting else that it will get noticed, I also think that maybe people are getting a bit fed up of real weapons, real places and shooting terrorists. I think NS will be a breath of fresh air to the HL community.

this mod will be the best mod in about 10secs after it comes out!the only down side is that we will have to wait ages to download.. or we could use a better site the fileplanet:P it already looks better and CS and i havnt seen half of what NS will have?!

NS will not be restricted to fileplanet, by any means. Just look at all the sites that have interviewed mod team members. That includes:

    HLCenter (MGON)
    Shiftify/Valvepit
    HalfLife Italia
    Halflife.org

as well as many different popular FTP sites.

I think that any NS supporter with the right kind of bandwidth/web space will also host the installer.

While being in this community, I saw the fanbase grow from two to about a thousand. This all happened before the mods release, even before the 'big' PR gigs.
NS related material is already creating five hour queues on Fileplanet. Would anyone have waited five hours for a video of CSes first version?
Natural Selection is in my arrogant opinion one of the most cunningly developed, best looking and most innovative products in the whole gaming buisness.

I really don't want to guess how big NS will be. Because it'll doubtlessly become bigger.

I think the non-presence of a sniper rifle will deter much of the lame CS community (face it, most people who snipe in CS are the fools who can't do anything else. There are some mature, good snipers, but they can play with all the other guns too, most of the time). Also, the fact that NS is a non-realism mod will also deter some CS fools who believe there is no point in gaming if it's not "realistic."

VAC is a good cheating deterrent, but if NS doesn't raise enough hell for Valve to take notice, there might be a proliferation of hacks that auto upgrades your guns, gives you teleportation on lvl5, etc etc. If Valve does take notice of NS, they might make anti-cheats specifically for NS.

You people shouldn't speculate so much. Wait til its done. How can you judge how good a mod is by what other people say and screens? Its impossible to tell.

I hope this gets DoD sized, but not like CS, I played it once or twice, but never again. Far to many llamas out there, and I believe was mentioned *many* times before.

I sure hope not, what will the alien team do for players?

    Werl... Minus the llama bit.

I strongly doubt NS will ever become bigger than CS, nor will any other mod, for a very long time if ever. I'm not a pessimist, just a realist. I live in Australia and there are almost no servers for minority mods, this means no decent NS servers unless it becomes mainstream, so fingers crossed.

I've been going over in my mind trying to think of ways to thwart NS, but that crafty Flayra has pretty much every base covered. Almost every potential problem I can think of is solved by NS' flexibility, being able to play DM-style on the alien team or as a tight, highly co-ordinated marine fire squad. The only problem I can think of that has no definite solution is the commander choosing, but the playtesters have put my fears mostly to rest.

i think most cs players wont find this game because they r so fixed on cs and only cs...and truthfully i hope this mod doesnt get so big it attracts the cheaters and other bad ppl from cs. yes.....thats it.......

ns will go far..... i dunno if as far as cs or dod, and i hope it doesnt..... i dont know if anybody else noticed, but, theres a lot of ppl watchin the progress of this mod, and i mean a lot..... valve is watchin the progress of this mod and a lot of ppl..... but many of them just watch and sit quietly in the void of darkness.... waiting for the release, this release will echo around the whole world.... and its gonna be really big, thats why flayra and the rest of the devs are holding it and working so hard.... its coz a lot of ppl is following the progress of this mod....
and i just want this mod to be big enough to have plenty of servers and a lot of fun, withouth lamers....
