Can anyone tell me if my computer is good?
<span style='color:yellow'>Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600)
Processor: AMD Athlon™ XP 2200+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.8GHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0a (4.09.0000.0901)
Grapics Card: Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440
Sound Card: Creative SB Audigy Audio [E400]</span>
Is that good, average, or poor for todays "standereds." I'm not rich, but I'm not poor either. I'm getting it wiped tommarow ($85 to wipe) so I just wanted to know. And on top of that I think I'm getting a new modem, having somone from road runner come out tommarow also and check out my cable. It will be like I got a new computer, so I wanna know how good it is.

Edit: The PC's okay...the video card is basically a Geforce 2 though.
Otherwise pretty decent.
Overall, average for what people own. About 12 months old by comparison to a decent system for sale now.
Shouldn't be this Off Topic ? (fps in NS aren't a real issue now)
Folks walk into stores and see a hot new 'Geforce 4' card and see the price. it is now that they fall in love. But it's whn they get home that they realize they've purchased a quite inferior card.
New, but geforce 2 quality, hence the low price. Needless to say, it's best to avoid them <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Crooks indeed. you COULD do it yourself, you know <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
HL2 should run bearably. (NS should run very well).
yeah well they shipped the harddrive off to the vatican for it to be blessed personally by the pope.
OMG 85 bucks? I do this for free for people all the time. Losers.
edit: I'm still trying to figure out why I bought the geforce4, since my geforce 2 ti (64 mb DDR) plays just about the same. gah......
I remember what it was like..
Drop the CPU. Intel is more reliable, even if it's a bit more expensive.
Drop the video card. Get an ATi.
Also, don't pay $85 for a format that you can do for free.
There's nothing 'unreliable' about AMD CPUs, unless you can't fit a HSF properly (yes they do run hotter than P4s, no biggie there - the performance difference is negligable and AMD pricing is far better value).
That system is pretty much average these days, besides the inferior video card (a Ti4200 would give you much better performance) and I'd steer clear of XP Home if possible.
Apart from that, not too bad.
My advice? Ditch the guy who's charging you 'only' $85 to wipe your HDD - search google for instructions on how to do it yourself.
You might learn something, and you'll save $85. It's really not hard to do.
True. A 'Ti' would help a bit.
