Buying Neon Genesis Evangelion

Cheap box set?
Well firstly, I am from the UK so any prices will have to be in Great British Pounds.

I am interested in buying the NGE box-set. I have seen it for sale in Australia (plays on UK DVD players) for about £70 (inc P&P.) A lot of places seem to be cheap but they charge shipping per disk, and the box set has 8 disks!

Does anybody know a reliable, cheap place to buy it?

Thanks in advance.

If you don't mind the lack of a (absolutely horrible and stupid dub) I suggest getting it from....er, sorry, no linking to commercial sites...PM me, I guess.

I have seen many different version of it (five I think.) The American version is the most expensive... There are many cheap looking versions of it (ranging from £15 to £30), which I don't trust. They look quite old and I have a feeling the DVD quality and dubbing might be different.

I think I'll order it from Australia or go for an Australian NGE on e-bay. It's quite cheap and the DVD spine is the same as the two seperate DVDs which I own (so it'll be the same release.)

Why can't you link to an external site? I haven't seen anywhere it says it is not permited

OK then, I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo confused right now.

    There's a 3 a 4 and an 8 DVD box set... What's the diference?!

They differ a lot in price!

I have no idea, I've yet to buy it myself, but I rented the first 4 episodes, and please don't watch the dub. For God's sake I cannot stand the acting. It's like a cast of drunk Keanu Reeves.

    http://toywiz.com/andvd4disete2.html

Could anybody please tell me if this is a decent version..? This is half the price of the 8 disk version and I am unsure as to why.

Make sure you don't buy em too cheap, I got my NGE box set cheap cuz it was an import (All I wanted was the subs anyway) but it turned out to have a hug pot in the last DVD so I could only get up to episode 22. I had to buy the rest of em seperate aat suncoast.

That's a pirated version. You can of course buy it, but you are looking at sub-par subtitles and no English audio track. Trust me on this.

I recommend you check out Madman, as the export to the UK:
Neon Genesis Evangelion Box-set (Eps 1-26)
Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth
Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion

I own all 3. They are of the highest quality, they are not pirated. They will be Region 4 encoded, I believe the UK is Region 2... (Off the top of my head) so be careful when importing.

Just had to get this in before I wandered off for breakfast. Gotta make sure you don't get ripped off...

Thanks Infinitum. I have heard elsewhere that it is a bootleg version too. They're charging a hell of a lot for it!!

I would rather pay the extra few pounds and get it from Australia... I have seen cheaper places than madman

I asked the seller of the NGE bootleg the same question. He told me that it did not have all the extras because it was for asian release.

    Dude...

Every single time someone mentions anime, you gotta come along and mention how you download anime... yes we all know how to download anime. Don't think your this big hard-arse because your 'stickin it to the man'. Fansubbing is a very grey area, however Evangelion has been licensed in a large amount of countries a long time ago so distribution of Evangelion in fansub circles has stopped.

So show some respect and pay for the DVDs...

The series is both Region 2 and 4 coded so it'll work on UK DVD players.

HOWEVER The Madman Evangelion films are only coded in Region 4, these will not work on UK DVD players

I want to start a collection, so I don't want to download anime or own the bootleg version of it. If it is a good film and I can find it cheap enough, it's worth my money.

    I sniff a pirated dvd....

1.) Only 4 DVDs. Legit version is 8.
2.) It is a Region 0 encode (No region), Evangelion has been licensed in all 4 Regions
3.) Price. Comparative with many many pirated DVDs for a full 26 ep series.
4.) Distributor = Video Star. Never heard of em.
5.) Box art does not match that of any of the 4 Regions. Including the 2 pirated versions I know of...
6.) Your buying that off a non-secure site. Enjoy.
7.) Inclusion of French and Spanish audio tracks...

    For Lupin III
1.) $30 = Same price as pirated DVD version.
2.) Lupin III, like Evangelion, has been licensed. The DVDs are only just coming out.

    Stop linking to pirated material guys ;_;

For future reference, I can cross check DVDs for legitimacy very quickly (If I'm awake and I see the post...) so if you KNOW they aren't legit, don't make me have to report you post >_<

I heard the easiest way of spotting a pirate is when they have 26 episodes on 3/4 CDs.

A lot of these pirates are quite convincing and I was probably going to buy one. I asked here, an anime forum and google groups... They all told me it was a pirate (thanks guys ) These pirates are still a lot of money! I'm glad I spent 2 days researching this and I think I have found the best deal

Oooh, I didn't know that. I took for granted that they were non-pirate DVDs, because, as I said, I have ordered DVDs from them before, and they where all 100% "official". And the fact that HK-version dvds are very cheap, you can get a new movie on DVD for under 5 US $, and I'm not speaking pirate-versions. But I remove my previously post, to be sure.

Video Star is a legit publisher. They release unusual stuff, mostly from the Far East, for resale over here.
