I was wondering if it was possible to delete annoying posts without a moderator?

You can only edit posts that belong to you... if that's what you were talking about, then you can edit to delete all text. No one except moderators/super administrators have the power to edit others' posts.

It's not like someone making a randomn insult at us is really going to affect us Canadians. Plenty of things I can think of against the US, of coarse I would never post them here in a degrotory manar.

As Jon Stewart oft points out, Canadians are too polite for their own good. We Americans could take over the entire country in a week. I mean us, the Americans reading the forum now. We could just walk up to the border, let them know we're expanding, and they need to move.

"We need the lumber," we'd say.

"Oh, of course," they'd say. "We'll just move up here, to the cold part."

Remember the Russian/Canada figure skating thing? Who dragged that out? The Canadians? Nope, it was the Americans. The Canadians smiled, waved, and held up the silver medal.

Americans have more things to insult, but it's more fun to insult Canadians, because they're so polite, they have nothing to insult [to get them all riled up]. Except the way they talk, eh?

An interesting book about Canadians is Why I hate Canadians by Will Ferguson. It is a very good read, he has some interesting things to say about Canadian culture. He isn't really anti-Canadian, as the title would have you lead, after all he is one. He just has quite a bit to say about some things wrong with us and our country. For example, he explains the three great themes of Canadian history: keeping the Americans out, keeping the French in, and trying to get the Natives to somehow disappear.

I recommend it, you'll definitely learn something you never knew.

----------
this was not meant to insult / harm / be mean. Its just to point out that Canada has an Army. Just because we are not at war every 10 years does not meen we cant fight in fact we have some of the best sharpshooters in the world (wich was proven in Afganistan). /end of rant

To be a good Canadian, you have to be able to laugh at yourself and your country, or you'll take offense. Just watch the movie Canadian Bacon and see if you're offended. If you are, you need to loosen up a LOT.

I submit the following hearsay: A canadian researcher decided to perform a study on the hypothetical situation of the US and Canada going to war. He reasoned Canada would fold in approximately 5 minutes.

Heh, coil is right. Even we Canadians make fun of ourselves! Besides, it would be kind of hypocritical to get upset when the Americans make fun of us for not having a military, and then turning around and making fun of them for their lack of decent health care, their supposed rudeness, their desire for world conquest, their horrible beer, their big cowboy hats, and their incessant flag-waving .

It's common knowledge that are military is under funded, and we now know that unlike most civialian governments who expect their military to be able to pull of a war with no casualties on thier side Candaian politicians think are military would somehow down the transport plane they are on in the first 5 minutes. That's what ticks me off.

I hereby recind my previous statement of all Canadians being polite. Thanks for showing me the exception.

Most Canadians I've talked to have has a sense of humor about their country. Most Americans need to have more of a sense of humor about theirs.

And as far as the whole invade Canada goes, you have the cause-and-effect thing drastically skewed. The War of 1812 started because of British impressment of US sailors (which had actually ceased already) and an alliance formed between the British and the Indians, who were being mistreated in the North-West frontier. The British moved forces into Canada, and Americans fear British tyranny. The War Hawks went in to oust the BRITISH (not French Canadians), and succeeded in getting stopped cold. In August of 1814, Britain sent some fresh troops into the undefended capital, where the White House was burned on August 24, 1814. The troops then tried to move into Baltimore, where they were stopped, owned, and sent packing. And lest you forget, Americans trooped also managed to burn York, now Toronto, in April 1813.

We were not attacking Canadians to try and steal more land for ourselves, were were trying to fight the British off. And succeeded in a stand still. Still, better than losing, right?

And Canadians ARE too kindly for their own good. And, apparently, think that Americans are insane. Just look up Polk and the "54-40 or fight" threat to see that. Polk bluffed his way into swiping more Canadian land in the Oregon/Washington area. I mean, sure, we paid for it and all, but Canada wouldn't have even sold it to us if we didn't threaten to take it by force. (Yeah, so we do want to rule the world. What of it? )

Look, most Canadians have a sense of humor about their country. I am in no way anti-Canadian. I just like to joke around with them. It's not like we Americans don't give you guys fodder to use to mock US, eh?

Oh, and how do you spell Canada in Canadian? C, eh. N, eh...

You took my reply a little wrongly i just pointed out the failure of American militia to win a war vs the english troops wich were mostly canadians with the exception of the commanders i only meant it as a joke and not as a insult or whatever you took it for so im sorry for rubing you the wrong way....

Wait a sec this forum is about the precarious situation im in not a bout the war of 1812...... rats that always does happen to me.
• HBNayrHBNayr Join Date: 2002-07-13 Member: 930Members
Then I'm sorry for getting a bit defensive. And we might not have won the war, but we didn't lose, either. Not too bad for a semi-militia vs. armed/trained/funded troops.
