as opposed to medpack spam in base.
This is some great advice for those who are learning commander tactics and really isnt that long. I'm, seeing that comanders make a lot of these mistakes. Let me break everything down into numbers first.
*** REMEBER SUICIDING DOES NOT GIVE THE OPPOSING TEAM RESOURCES, nor does it make your team lose res. ***
1. Marines that don't have anything but a LMG and pistol I will refer to as "zeros" because they cost nothing to make they just simply respawn with that stuff...
2. Then you have your guys with big guns, but not jetpacks or heavy armor. These I'll refer to as 10/20s.
3. Then you got your marines with essentually everything. Both a prototype and a weapon: Toughguys.
Now to get to the good stuff.
Scenario one: You have a zero in your base that has 1 heatlh and is requesting 2 meds. Don't give him that. Just tell him to suicide. He'll respawn with full health and you will have lost no res as opposed to losing 4 res.
^^^^^^^^^
I see this scenario a lot simply because they have that kill/death ratio syndrome from playing deathmatch too much. This'll eventually get better I guess.
2: Similar to 1, only now you've a 10/20 that's in your base saying he wants health. You still should tell him to suicide and to pick up his weapon after he has respawned. You will still lose no res.
3: But when you've a 10/20 out somewhere fighting, that's when you give him meds. You don't want the gun to go to waste, if however he is trying to make it back to base, he can save you a few res...
4: And when you have a toughguy requesting health you should give it to him no matter what. Because when he dies...so does his jetpack/heavy armor.
------------------------
Aight I hope this gives some good ideas because I've sen far too many resources wasted by making these mistakes.

So this is a pretty BAD strategy, honestly.
However, I prefer to have the person go kamikaze. He might take down a couple of weak skulks, who knows?
Of course, it depends on the scenario.
If you aren't doing anything, just kill yourself. If anything, you'll save time. Going off to die generally takes much longer than respawning will (and you'll have to respawn anyway). If it only takes you 3 seconds to die, then the other team probably has you trapped in your base, and what you do from that point is rather moot.
Depriving a kharaa player of earned resources is different. /killing yourself just before you recieve your deathblow is poor sportsmanship. Do whatever you want in your own base.
Anyhow.
Dying with LMG and no armour should be expected and encouraged unless you're in a strategically valuable position. IE defending base with 6 friends? You won't be missed. Only marine standing at an RT the comm wants to cap or barely holding the comm's TF? Expect the meds.
IMHO too many players think their LMG and basic armour gives them a mandate to beg for medspam. Someone mentioned realism about not wanting to die. All very well, but we didn't see people on the beaches begging for Tanks and Armour when they had to storm the defences. You took your chances, you knew the tanks and armour couldn't appear until the defences were down.
As I see it, if you're low health at base, run outside and lure an onos out - or scout an area while you can. Make some use of yourself. Calling the comm a noob because he won't fork out res for your (in game terms) worthless body is just childish.

That's why I said, it depends on the scenario. In this case, with one bite worth of health, thne yes, kill yourself. But if you have something a bit higher, then I think that kamikazee is better.
If he lives through that, have him do it again, stacking more up onto the big pile, and scattering more even further out. The idea is that the mines scattered further out work to keep smaller aliens from hitting your onos traps, and if the guy dies, it's probably from an explosion rather than an alien, give you a couple points of resources instead of them. If he doesn't die, hey.. you've got an onos trap set up, and a marine that feels useful to the team, hopefully singing praises about your comming later.
So, if I ever see you suicide yourself because you are tagged or lost, I ban you from my server.
Wow...forget that...if they took kill away..hel, you could just reconnect. This may be a tough thing to deal with... If I wanted to prevent kills for resources...I could just bind a key to "reconnect" and hit that everytime even If im ramboing.
If you want mho, take out res for kills...it'll fix this in a flash.
But there are faster ways of killing yourself sometimes than typing /kill in the console, and thats by standing on top of an infantry portal and waiting for someone to spawn in. Sometimes you don't even have to wait 3 seconds.
I thought about telling that to this guy...
I mean, I won't spam meds to a lone marine on the opposite side of the map that I want him to be, UNLESS he is doing something useful, even if I didn't think of it. Ramboes can give you help when you least expect it sometimes.
All the same, I agree for the most part about the med issue; but always remember your marines are your meat and potatoes of the game, and if you aren't willing to satisfy them at least a little, you lose a lot of push. :/

lmao @ this
So you're trying to say it's some kind of psychological issue....that you have to make marines feel important. That's the biggest bs ever. I can't stop lmao @ this!!!
