I was just playing a game and there was a crash, I found myself back to my desktop. When I try to login to any game now, it says it can't authenticate my WON registration. What is wrong with my game. This never happened in the past.

well, i have that often too...
just exit the game(im not sure if you have to, it could be that you can just wait dfor a while) and try to connect again...

if that fails. then it could be that someone plays with your internet key and therefor you cant connect to the won servers...
and for THAT, there is not really a solution

Could not obtain WON authentication?!
Right?!?
Sometimes I have this problem, too!
You will always get this problem, if an other ns or hl or what ever player is using your CD-Key on the same server, too!

I have an other problem!!

This one: I am playing on a server!
But then I suddenly auto-disconnect and it says: there are to many players on this server!
OR: There are no free slots!
I think (but I only THINK) that problem starts when the server is full and someone want to join!
Normaly the player who wants to join gets a message like this one: This server is full! ---> OK/CANCEL
But if i am on the server, i get kicked and that guy who wants to join, joins!
Maybe the player who has an ->A<- as first letter of the name get kicked then, but my name is:
-[FD]-Silencer! So you see: I have an - as first letter, so that can be the problem!!
But maybe you know more....

I seem to remember somone saying that if you crash sometimes it takes WON a bit to realize you're not connected anymore, so it looks like somone with the same cdkey/won id is already on. Should clear after a minute or two

Sounds like a reserved slot, which happens when somone (mostly an admin) joins the server, even if its full it will kick to clear a slot. Depending on what the server runs it can be highest pinger or who ever was on server the least ammount of time

...Well I never gave out my CD key to anyone, so how the hell did they get it , if they did? Did I log onto a server that is run by some thief? If it was, is there any way I can track them down...if there is, I want to get the police involved. I want to sign a complaint with the local police department and prosecute.

there are programs out on kazaa and grokster that can create a wonid, maybe thats how they did it

1) it is possible(althou unlikely) that your key was randomly generated from a key generator by somone else
2) Servers only log wonid's not cd keys so no server op can get your cd key
3) as i was trying to say before, its most likly just a glitch with WON, it thinks you are still logged on, and when you try to connect again it sees it as a second connection and denys it.

How long before it lets you back into a game?

I have waited a half hour and it still won't let me log on... I'll try in an hour from now and see whart happens, needless to say I am ****! I hope you are right and it is a glitch with WON, if it persists , how do I get in touch with the WON people and find out what happened.

I think this maybe the problem (works with WinXP, not sure about others). If you crash to the desktop hit Ctrl, Alt and Delete and select the processes tab. Look for a process called hl.exe . If it is running terminate it. If it is not there then I don't know what your problem is

Yea jay123 brings up a good point, make sure part of hl isnt still running. Restart your computer if you havn't done it by now, then try and connect again.

I dn't know how to get in touch with WON though

That’s happened to me as well, quite often – I think that localhost’s theory is the most plausible one:

QUOTE

I seem to remember somone saying that if you crash sometimes it takes WON a bit to realize you're not connected anymore, so it looks like somone with the same cdkey/won id is already on. Originally, I used to restart my computer each time it crashed – I was, however, able to reconnect once after a long period of time – perhaps your WON connection drops out at the change of each map. It’s something I just thought of, but haven’t been able to verify yet.

I took the advice of one of the many posters (thank you all for helping!!) and rebooted my computer. Now I can log on to the WON server and join games. Now that is weird, my PC NEVER crashes during a game, I can't figure out why it happened! Oh well, chalk it up to the mysteries of windows.
Thanks again guys/gals for the help!

I forgot the numbers, but yes, it would take weeks to generate a useful key. I won't put it past people, though.
