OMG I Cant Play Ns!

<div class="IPBDescription">client.dll problem!</div> i have had NS 2.0 for a while now, had fun no-probs then all of a sudden today i cant play at all! When i get to the loading screen / console i get this error "Cannot load client.dll library" or something simlilar to that. I have re-installed NS (2 times now), and i am trying to refrain from having to re-install all of HL. All my other HL modifications work as i have tested them all out. Just NS, and i need a fix asap! if anyone can help its greatly appreciated. Also that valve.rc thing doesnt work as i have tried it, and the error message still keeps appearing. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    re-installing half-life now! hopefully all problems to be fixed ... otherwise i'll be back!

    I think this has to do with a problem when installing very old mods. I think it overwrites that library, or something to that degree.

    ok there is something majorly wrong here!, i have re-installed HL and we'll it now says version HL 1.1.1.0 is out of date. So i click update and then it says something like this! "HL 1.1.1.0 is out of date ... checking for upgraded versions "Your version HL 1.1.1.0 is out of date, but there are no updates to update HL to the latest version!"

    welll duh, and still NS is not working because of this client.dll library issue any help pls!!!!

    delete your HL directory before reinstalling

    check your hl.exe if its great than a meg you probably have a virus.

    Maybe you're stupid friction. Did you download ns 2.0?
    If you did, I don't know how to help you. Try installing cs 1.5 again. And then NS

    This is what it says first up >Half-life Error< "Could not load library c:/sierra/half-life/ns/cl_dll/client.dll (something there abouts)"

    ok here's what i have done ...

    > Uninstalled all HL and its components (making sure i have a backup of the original one) done this 2 times.

    > New installation HL = 920kb (so not virus)

    > Full system virus check with up-to-date virus system!

    doing now ...

    > Checking the cs 1.5 thing i.e. re-installing that now!

    This sounds like an fmod.dll problem. Make sure you have the right version of fmod.dll in your half-life directory (or Counter-strike retail or Day of Defeat retail, or whatever game is hosting the mod). Get it from someone else and you should be working fine.

    unfortunantly not fixed <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->, the fmod.dll hasnt worked. I replaced mine with a friends and still i get the same problem. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> any other avenue's of help? thanks flay nice try.

    sounds like a registry problem. One question , are you using cs or dod retail or regular hl.

    If you want to be really sure that you are using the correct fmod, delete the one in your half-life directory (or rename it to a backup copy), then run the NS 2.0 install. It will drop down one which is perfectly binary compatible.

    Ok, i have tried everything above. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> and NS still has the same problem ... could it have something to do with drivers? should i upgrade to the latest video drivers... because i think when this problem occured it was the day i had my virus definitions updated and i think it might have something to do with it. I checked this also by disabling my NAV and running NS but still the same problem occurs with "cant load library c:/sierra/half-life/ns/cl_dlls/client.dll" and then crash's to desktop once again. <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo--> i dont know what else to do?

    why don't you copy the whole ns folder from your friend?!

    If that don't work i can't help anymore!

    Have you uninstalled and reinstalled half-life, and patched it to 1.1.10 (or CS retail, patched to 1.5)?

    i have the same problem...
    my client.dll couldn't be loaded...
    i tryed to copy the folder too... didnt work!

    but i replaced the ns client.dll with the cs client.dll...
    this works but with without sound- so kick it!

    could u help me ?

    My NS shortcut:

    target: C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -game ns -noipx -nointro -console -numericping

    start in: C:\Sierra\Half-life

    I couldn't find the parameters, I'm not very tech savvy, my apologies.

    It should be noted that I connect to servers using Gamespy... could this problem be related? Additionally, I just noted today that after it says I have this problem, it somehow switches to HL 1.0.0.5, even though I have 1.1.1.0 installed. Very peculiar.

    I'll reinstall again, but this is the 3rd time it has reverted.

    Turns out we're just stupid. On Gamespy, you need to click on the halflife thing to play NS.

    Clicking on the Counterstrike tab under "your games" allows you to play Counterstrike, half-life, TFC, etc., but you can only load NS under Half-life.

    Still getting the CD key thing.

    Sorry for being a dummy, but what is the 'cd key thing'? Is it prompting you to enter your CD key? Have you?
