Why Cant I Get My Mic To Work? Little Help?

<div class="IPBDescription">Any help? :D</div> Im soaring my throat soar trying to get it to work..........

Running the HL mic diagnostic program, with ALL volume on mic and speakers cranked to the max, even taking off the mic head so I can talk closer-I scream at the top of my lounges and I can BARLEY hear it-all I can tell is a person making a sound, and its to soft to understand.

Mic booster is on(tried it on and off), "alternative microphone" is on, it dosent make ANY sound without that, so I guess what I got qualifies as an alternative mic.

Any ideas?

plugged in all the way?
volumes in the volume panel up?

volume panel is jacked up, its plugged in as if I say VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr right into the mic I can BARLEY hear it, but thats it.

Got it working now.......... DONT know what I changed-odd.

Now to find a recorder program and a host heh <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>

STILL cant get it to work in game though-decided to test it out, wont work.

People saying it just sounds like MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, though on the voice test it works fine...

Edit: GRRRR! On sound test again its all static-ARGH!

GAHHHHHHHHH!! I get it to work on the test-works FINE.

I try it AGAIN on the test, and all I hear is static with my voice VERY faint like before.......... WORK!!!!

Then maybe the sound card/ those thingies you plug the mic in ( excuse my absence of computery terms) is broken?

I got it working before briefly on the test(though it didnt seem to save)-so that cant be it.

Install the latest sound card drivers you can find. That fixes up most problems.

Okay, go to volume control. Click on options and open up the properties. Under the "Adjust volume for" heading, switch it to "Recording". Then select "Microphone" from the little list.

Try cranking that one up.

i have this problem too..

P4 2.8
512 RAm
GeForce 4 MX440
SoundBlaster Live 5.1 Platinum

i can get HLSS to work in game.. but the mic just won't

if i configure the sound app. in windows to recogonize the microphone i can do the Half Life mic. setup..
but as soon as i close it (Half Life mic. setup) .. the mic fails to work in-game and when i go to the set-up again..

drivers are the latest..
i've tried using the mic. plug-in behind the case (rather than the front panel)

i don't know what to do about it.. for now .. i'm too lazy to bother with it

also i have tried everything mentioned above..
