Shotties Vs. Hmgs

<div class="IPBDescription">Which goes better with HA?</div> Comming some games, the marines still ask for shotties when i can give them HMGs. And recently, I've been just giving them shotties with thier HA instead of HMGs, and it seems to work better (abiet a bit more suicidal
), They take teh objective more often, but only 2 or so are left when they secure the area/hive.

Shotguns are cheaper, kill those redeeming onos and fades more often than not, and carry much more reloads.

HMGs have that tightened cone of fire and now kill so effectively at any range. Plus they don't have to pause, making tracking a target easier.

I think HMGs are only slightly better than shotguns, mainly because of the range. They can take out OCs much more easily (duh) and are better for killing lerks and fades. I don't think that enough of an advatage to justify it being 2x the cost of a shotgun though. I'm leaning towards teh shotgun right now.

Remarkably, onos players fear the shotgun more often than HMGs... So what do you think?

    I prefer shotty. You give me an HMG and im just gonna lose it. I get 150 shots thats very inaccurate and gone in a flash and then im screwed and dead.

    You give me a shotty and ill drop onos and be 100% more effective. Whether shotty is more powerful im not sure, I just prefer the quicker reload and more 'accurate' shots...if you can call it that.

    I prefer LMG over HMG...unless your shooting an onos.

    Oh, by the way, I laugh at the retards who try to take an OC out with hmg. Only because of the situation though. Im standing there firing grenades around the corner and this stupid HMGer runs in front of me and dies trying to shoot the OC. Im surprised some of these people know how to get NS installed....maybe the directions should be somewhat difficult to understand <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    SG > Onos

    the hmg has its merits, range being one of the big ones, i am a shotgun man, but i was always a shotgun man, even in 1.04 when the hmg was the uber gun. imo the bigest weekness of the hmg now is its amo capacity, 250 rounds, thats 2 reloads, i am always runin out of hmg bulits.

    I usually hand out a HMG to the marine with best aim, GL's to the best teamplayers and shotty for the rest.

    Normal squad is 1 HMG, 2 GL's and 3+ shotguns.

    you need that shooty for an onos, especially thr edeeming ones. Lerks can be a problem if they're mad spikers but that damage is tiny enough to weld right up anyways.
    In short: I almost always throw down shotties and GLs, about 1:1, gl spam is a killer.

    I myself always go SG coupled with 1 or 2 GL unless we have rediculess amount of res. Think about it the SG cost half the res as a HMG and still get most work done quicker unless the aliens have 3 hives and you're acid spammed.

    1 blast = dead uncarap fade.
    2 blasts = dead whatever trait the fade took.

    There isn't much any situation an HMG absolutely fails at so I prefer HMG's when I have the resources. Shotgunners (myself included) tend to wander too closely to firefights and can jeapordize the team by exposing themselves to flankers... not to mention your grenadier is in the back being eaten by the unupgraded skulkers...
    In essence...

    "I hand out Shotguns when I want my team to rush. I hand out Heavy Machine Guns when I want them to attack. I hand out Grenade Launchers when I want them to clean-burn hives. I hand out one of each when I want a death squad."

    yes i like shotties a lot,

    a) they cost half the res (main advantange). Instead of giving one HA a hmg, you could give him a shotgun, with a LA shotty as backup. Two shotguns are way more powerful than 1 hmg.

    b) against skulks they are WAY more effective

    c) against redemp devour onos theyre better than hmg

    d) they look/sound/feel cooler

    e) when you kill lots with a HMG, its nothing special, but if you kill 6-7 aliens within a few seconds of each other with a shotgun, it feels impressive.

    f) They are MUCH more effective than hmgs vs buildings (2nd biggest adv)


    There are many reasons why shotguns are better than HMG's, shotties should really cost 15 res, instead of 10.

    I'd generally prefer a SG, the fact its 1/2 the res, means I have a little less reponsibility and it gives extra mobility.

    BUT I'm not gonna moan when I get a HMG...

    HMG in my eyes is a squad support weapon. Thats why its the same price (afaik) as the GL. Its not intended as a superLMG.

    I'd be inclined to go along with the other posters - Shotties all round, GLs for the capable and one or two with HMG and instructions to shoot anything slow/stationary.
