I've tried everything
Alright, I have onboard sound with an abit NF7-S motherboard.
Randomly in play, I get a fuzz sound, then the sounds get blurred and mushy - as if having several echoes of every sound with a milisecond delay between each echo. Think of listening to a radio station with bad reception. I have the drivers up to date, tweaked every setting in advanced audio config. I just can't figure what's triggering this behavior.
The fuzz doesn't go away until I close HL completely.
Has anyone seen this before?

Is NF7-S an nForce 2 board?
Is it only Half-Life/NS's sound that does this?
I had a problem where I was at a point where I could play for a while before the sound wigged out and sounded all underwater/laggy.
I then found sometimes other programs did it too, but mostly Half-Life.
My fix was I stepped back from the latest drivers I had downloaded when I built the system, and simply used the sound drivers off of my CD. (My motherboard is Asus A7N8X deluxe - nForce 2 motherboard). After I stepped back my drivers, I never had the problem again.
I'll try it and see how it works, but I'm pretty sure that the CD that came with my motherboard contained the most up to date drivers that were offered on the site
