That is the same sprite. The commander mode and the minimap itself on the upper right screen of a marine use the first frame of it and the great map you get while pressing 'c' uses the remaining 4 frames. Before you ask-
This is due to a technical limitation of the Half-Life engine: Sprites can be only up to 256*256 pixels, so if you want to draw a big sprite you have to assemble it from several smaller sprites. You can see this if you look carefully at the digesting or gestating sprite.

They're in your ns\sprites\minimaps directory, and you'll need a sprite viewer and a sprite compiler in order to edit them. My <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=20223' target='_blank'>Modelling 101</a> links page at <a href='http://members.aol.com/handhyle/101index.html' target='_blank'>http://members.aol.com/handhyle/101index.html</a> links to both, and a couple of tutorials.

If you really want to dive in and mess with the minimaps, I'd suggest piecing together the four quarters into a whole map, putting on all the names, then cutting it up into 256x256 pieces again.

If you're new to sprite editing though be warned that it's a bit complicated at first, so you'll definitely want to back up the original map files in case you screw them up.

I don't think any sites have recent map overviews
