Auto Help Problems?

trouble turning it off :-/
Hey guys,

Has anyone else got trouble turning auto help off?
I've typed in console 'cl_autohelp 0' but that didnt even change the cl_autohelp value in my config file to 0.
I went into my config file and manually changed the '1' to a '0' in the 'cl_autohelp' variable. However autohelp STILL runs in-game.

Any other way of getting rid of this annoying feature.

Make the changes to your config then make it read-only.

i got the exact same problem.

cl_autohelp is set to 0 in my config.cfg but it makes no difference.

startin to p*** me off when half the screen is taken up to say 'u just killed an enemy player!'

Some pop-ups will still pop-up regardless. IMO.

    /me cries

I want the good old 1.04 autohelp where you could turn it all off. I think I can start talking in 'autohelp' language soon. Anytime I kill a guy I will just shout out what the autohelp says :-s

i have the same problem. I n 1.04, when I consoled it off, it stayed off from then on. In 2.0, I can't get rid of it.

I'm not sure why this would be happening. Are you sure autohelp is on? Note that there are some error messages that will always show whether you have autohelp enabled or not (if you can't evolve because you don't have enough resources, if you can't join a team for some reason, etc.).

My cl_autohelp is 0 ( set it in console), and it does do random things. It says "you just got res from killing an enemy", and gives useless hints a lot of times.

Sometimes programs will change the config, in which case you need to make it read only.

Im sure too. The "your team just killed an enemy" message and a few others pop up with "cl_autohelp 0".

Um..this is a pretty stupid question, but how do I make my config folder read only?

    Nvm, found it.

Making the config file a 'read only' file doesnt help me. I still have stupid autohelp signs such as 'wield point' and other stuff like that.
I really need to turn this off.
    Any other help?

    Thanx

The weld point isnt supposed to be turned off.
  • CWolfCWolf Join Date: 2003-01-19 Member: 12483Members
oh boy, newbie friendly I guess but still. They should allow that to be turned off like in 1.04. Ah well, ta.

Ok, my cl_autohelp is 0 in the config, it is made read only. However, I still get random "noob" messeges, such as get ready to hatch when I'm almost done egging, or you got res from killing an enemy.

lets not forget those lovely messeges when u get in and out of the com chair that spam u to death.

I suggest an cl_autohelp -1 that removes all help messages.. they are really pointless after you know the game..

These are the ones I've found that still show up:

Point at this command chair, and press use to enter command mode

You must wait longer before reetering the comm chair.

Your team already has a commander

The above 3 are really annoying, the first 2 flood your screen if you run into the comm chair, and the 3rd is spammy if the armory is near the comm chair.

    More:

Your team killed an enemy

You are in the Ready Room, (something like) walk to a portal to join a team

You are gestatating to another alien, Prepare to hatch.

Only one hive can be built at a time, wait for the current one to finish

You are now a soldier

You are an observer, you cannot join this game, but you can join the next

Most of the above ones are pointless, especially the "you are now a soldier" one and the "you are gestating to another alien"

If I edit them to blank in the titles.txt file, will it crash ns?
    I've already replaced them..

    edit your titles.txt
gonna be tedious finding all those popups tho

Its not hard to find them, I want to know if deleteing the text inside them will cause ns to do weird stuff, like crash
