<div class="IPBDescription">What is it?</div> A quick question do the marines have, or plan on getting anything, that can fill the forth space. Im talking about the weapon slots, (ie. number 1 is LMG, 2 is Pistol, 3 is knife...) What do you think?

Weren't hand grenades originally planned for NS, but scrapped? I'm sure I remember something about that. GLs don't show up for a long time(they are expensive), at least not in decent numbers for a long time. And a solider is unsafe in some situations(close range) with a GL. So hand grenades could fill a perfect role. Imagine:
1)Lerk or skulk in vent? Toss a grenade. 2)OCs? Toss a grenade. 3)Onos incoming? Toss a grenade.
Nah a blast grenade would be cool. I don't think there is room for anything else. Flashbang would be retarded, smoke would be useless. Hmmm I guess you could have fire grenades(basically a large cloud of searing gas that slowly expands and eventually dies out, of course that would need to be volumetric to be like that).
Let's put it this way... Marines are not supposed to be self-sufficient Rambo/John McClane's of death. Giving them 'nades means they don't neccessarily need a gl in the squad for the purposes of indirect fire (such as lerks in vents). WHY would we want to discourage teamwork?

And, it wouldn't be a fourth weapon, it'd likely be a primary. In fact, the reason for primary/secondary/melee is to make each marine into at most a 2-piece affair, with a major primary and some limited defense/support in terms of a secondary weapon. IMO grenades would be cool. Comm could research grenades from armory so that each marine has one grenade at start. No other way to get them.
And I was thinking about some sort of concussion grenades (like the ones in TFC :p ) that would toss aliens around and make them stagger. For example when aliens are trying to lock marines in their base, rines could throw a concussion gren behind the corner and attack while aliens are in disorder. It would temporarily make skulks very uneffective. And I guess that onos wouldn't get thrown around... It could look... strange (?) :)

omg, that would rule. But i think they would rule too good. Imagine how easily hive goes down if you toss some grenads in the area. Huh huh, too easily. I'm happy with 3 weapons.

I think welder replacing knife as suggested earlier in the thread is a much better idea. Knife is a short ranged melee weapon, welder is... well... short ranged...
Er, if there was a flamethrower, it would be a primary weapon (slot 1), so no slot 4 for that.
As for the welder, it would make much more sense to have it replace the knife than the pistol. If I were out there on the field, nothing short of having my pistol eaten would make me leave it behind. However, the welder is WAY heavier than a knife, so it would make you slow down a fair amount more than replacing the pistol with it.
The only thing slot 4 would get any use of is grenades. As often as I would really love to have a single grenade (like when there's a pesky skulk in a vent), it would really shift the game balance. It's probably best that explosives don't exist except as a primary weapon.

ermm but seriously, only thing I could think fit there is the welder so you dont lose your pistol =(
