You should take a page out of cossacks! The more of a sturcture you have, the more it costs to make the next one of it!

So turrets should be like

#
1-2: 10 res
3-4: 12 res
5-6:14 res
7-8:16res
9-10: 18 res
11-15: 20 res per turret
16-20: 25 res per turret
20+: 30 res per turret

Now, this should only be per AREA! SO that if you had 25 turrets in your start, it would have cost like, 2000 res!


Same with offense chambers past the 8 chamber limit!


Just remove the limit to chambers per area, and there you go! A lot of the problems are solved in GL's and HMG's being weewhackers!

    Yeah, and the lerk doing umbra is usualy the first to get blasted (I dunno why, but even if an onos is right in front of the turrets, if a lerk is doing umbra, he gets weiner wacked SOOO badly!

    And sieges should NOT count to this, since aliens haven't got an equivilent.

    Bile bomb is a counter, I agree, but with 25+ turrets there, even with umbra + carapace+5 DC's, you only get 1-2 shots off before you have to retreat to heal!

    And turrets pay for themselves, too. Putting up a turret or OC is like putting money in the bank, and letting the interest grow.

    Hold on there bubba! Teamwork will NOT take down 25 lvl 3 turrets! We (our team of 8) did 3 VERY good rushes, and not a single turret went down!


    2 lerks, one doing umbra, one doing spore
    3 onos (all over the t-fac)
    2 fades (after the 2nd t-fac)
    1 gorge (healing or doing bile bomb ont eh turrets)

    not a SINGLE MARINE was there, yet we only got the 1st t-fac to 25% before the onos all died, and the 2nd t-fac to 50%. The gorge was able to get away (he did one last bile bomb then got away with 4 HP) and the lerk too!

    We did this SAME THIGN 3 times! Each time the commander jsut jumped out and welded the t-facs!

    Then, we tried an 8 gorge bile rush! We got 13 turrets, but we all died, and only took 1 IP with us too! Again, when we came back, all the turrets were back!

    We THEN tried a 7 onos 1 lerk rush. Again, all of us died, and only 2 t-facs died (the marines had 4 at this point)


    As you can see, teamwork does NOT beat 25 turrets!!!

    (I did manage to do somehting on my own though. I snuck behind the com chair as a fade and got it down... but the arse comm laid a 2nd right behind me and trapped be between it and some turrets!!! ARGH!)

    PPL just dont seem to realize the insain volume of accuret firepower that v2 turrets dish out!
    I routenly play 2 TF and 6-8 (have placed 16-20 at double res, base or hive) Like the man said there money in the bank. Even if they dont pay for them selfs with killres they will allways kill more alien res then I will lose.
    Here is where aliens get the shaft,.. The major alien Turret farm counter is (suppose to be) the gorge. But two problems need to be adresed for gorge to be a true counter (at least a counter to more then 3-4 turrets)
    One: Bile bomb does no personal damage and a marine can weld a well spaced farm faster the even a team of gorges can kill them. With my fodder farms ™ you can try having 2 lerks, a couple of oni and some gorges, they will STILL kill the aleins faster then they can kill turrets.
    Two: Turrets hardly ever miss and with there excellent RoF, high damage (insain with lev3) and they are dirt cheap. If a turret kills one gorge and 3 skulks it has made me a profit.....

    I feel that bile bomb should do MILD damage to marines. Not enough to kill them quickly But, enough so that if a marine is standing next to 3 turrets welding them 2-3 gorges should be able to kill him or at least force the Com to health spam him.
    Another idea to go along with this is maby giveing the Bilebomb a modest damage, range and area of effect when the 3rd hive goes up. Im not talking any large boost, just enough to allow a couple of gorges to break open turret turtles.

    No no, bile bomb is fine, but it needs to be a longer range...

    If you ever played with gravity set to like, 100, you know what I mean!

    Grenades and bile bombs become ROCKETS! IT ROCKS!!!!

    They should try somethign like that!

    Here's how I saw a few turret farms go down:

    2 onos charge in from the front, with celerity, run wildly around and attract turret fire
    behind them, 3 gorges come in and bilebomb as much as possible with adrenaline. They can get about 4-5 bilebombs out each, that makes about 15 bilebombs all together. Now, that would definitely kill one turret. But since turrets are usually close together, you can count on at least a few going out. Now if you have the entire map covered, you'll have enough resources to do this over and over until you break through.

    I am saying, that does NOT help when you have 25+ lvl 3 turrets in one HIVE AREA (aka, 25+ turrets in less than 5 game meters)

    The onos hardly have room to MOVE! They die in like, 10 seconds! Gorges take abotu 1 shot from each turret and goes *whump* *dead*

    The problem is hive lockdown bull. Turres need to cost more the more you set in one area! It's that simple!

    Or you could cap the amount of turrets that a given area can contain (they did it with aliens, why not mairnes). You could allso cap the number of turrets a single TF can support (although I ALLWAYS build a back up for vital areas)
    Over all some thing has to be done. The onlt counter to MY fodder farms is to keep me from building them.....

    As Tabris said, he was waiting for the com to jump out or rines to phase in.

    Since umbra doen's stack, it was a good idea! He got 2 kills after, when 2 guys phased back to weld! "hee hee, stupid marines"

    Teamwork and all is nice, but take for example the marine base in tanith.

    When you get a turret farm in there with nade spammers covering both entrances, nothing you do will get anywhere. Well, it will, eventually, but it takes so long it becomes boring and pointless and I end up quitting after an hour or so. It's awful. Really the only major flaw in an otherwise terrific game.

    A simple limit to the number of turrets in any one area would really fix this is in a hurry...

    Nah, I'd rather see marines waste 2000 res on a turret farm, rather than 200 res... heh heh!


    Just increase bile bomb range by 2x, and everything is fixed!

    Not in tanith, or any similar map. The farm is right at the doorway, so you can't hit the farm without being hit by the turrets... and then it ends very quickly for little gorge.

    There is a cap on turrets in a given area. I tried it offline with sv_cheats on. It was around 40-50.

    I took down my own turret farm as a single gorge, but there were no sieges <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> so I had the whole area full of defense chambers.

    I think a system similar to the alien's system for turret spamming should be implemented. Some commanders spam ridiculous amounts of turrets and sometimes (i.e. with a team full off nubs) they're extremely hard to overcome!

    There should be a turret limit per area, or, a turret limit per TF, or, a maximum number of turrets on the whole map, or, make each TF/TF upgrade become more expensive the more TFs you have on the map [Perhaps make the turrets to go in these TFs area's more expensive as you gain more TFs too].

    Ok, Zorik just summed up what I was saying!


    The more turrets you have, the more expensive they become, and thus you are not as likely to spam em all over!

    Now, if you have 10 turrets in one hive, the first turret in the next hive will be the same cost, and so on. As long as they are not all in one room, you know...
