Neither do I. The character can move across the floor fluently, the scenery in the background can be crisp, and even the angles at which the art is drawn in inventive. But then the character opens his or her mouth, and it widens to three times the normal size. And then the character moves. And the background becomes a disco ball blur-fest. And then the character gets mad. And his or her eyes WOBBLE. Oh yeah. That happens to everyone.

I don't understand how anime can get so many things spot on, but miss such essentials as accurate mouth movements and somewhat life-like characters. Anime is still a cartoon. Don't be expecting real-life from animation.... *shrugs*

If you went some very good 'technical' anime, such as what you describe is lacking from a lot of anime, please try the 2 Rurouni Kenshin OVA's. The visuals are amazing and you will not be dissappointed, I assure you.

In actuality it is just a single OVA, but because of the time difference between the 5th and 6th Episode (2 years) they are commonly referred to by their original airing names and as 2 seperate OVA's

Rurouni Kenshin Reminisence aired in 1999 and was 4 episodes long
Rurouni Kenshin Seisouhen aired in 2001 and was 2 episodes long

For some god awful reason, releases of both OVAs were entitled Samurai X.... so yeah...

I personally love the video animation, but loathe the story. Mainly because the Enishi Arc was NEVER created in the TV series or given justice in the OVA format. They ruined how the Kenshin series was meant to end..... bah... I'm just crappy that a magnifecent 10 Volume manga was turned into this garbage... Everything else is superb, just the story shits me to tears ;/

NO, you fricking NUBS!!!

go get Jin-Roh

it will EASILY be the most realistic animated film you have EVER seen, in terms of movement, physics, background art, etc.

I mean, when you simulate the upward pull of an MG42 firing at full rate held with only your hands, and the Mauser rounds rake the ground closer and closer and then the person is suddenly riddled and perforated in a shower of flying metal... you'd think his mouth would get big, right?

Nah, it doesn't. They've all got nice, realistic faces.

Inf, you gotta remember that these kids are angry at kawaii/bishounen animes. So don't give them a bishie anime if that's what they're complaining about.

edit: for any, uhm, particularly deluded individuals out there, here's some evidence.

Yeah its so realistic with a guy shooting an MG42 from his hip and running around with body armor and some belts of ammo on his back. The movie was a giant emotional failure.

Can I just point out, to anyone who watches anime and can't understand why everyone's mouth gets so big when they talk, what the stylised sweat drops are for, why everyone seems to have unnatural hair colour, and why everyone's eyes are so enormous and glassy: anime isn't your thing. Leave it at that. If you have to ask, you don't belong

Dubbed DBZ I agree is hopeless.

Subbed DBZ is pretty cool, 'Tournament' Anime (Find the bad guy, through good guys at bad guy until hero turns up) is a required taste

It's kinda like Subbed Sailor Moon Vs Dubbed Sailor Moon. There just isn't any comparison.

Not really a problem, if you don't mind a bit of illegality. I won't post any links or anything to hopefully prevent nuking, but it is quite possible to get DVD players reset to play any region DVD.
• InfinitumInfinitum Anime Encyclopedia Join Date: 2002-08-08 Member: 1111Members, Constellation
That's not the problem, both my Stand-alone DVD Player and my DVD-ROM are region free.

The problem lays in the fact Dragonball Z was reworked in North America as a kid's show, so I doubt I will ever see an uncut DVD version with PROPER subtitles.

Perhaps with enough time we'll see it, but I'm not counting on it really. I'm gonna pray for an unedited version of Dragonball making a Region 4 release =D

DBZ is not very good in either language, if you ask me. Dragon Ball I can stand, but DBZ and DBGT make me want to take my TV and throw it at someome's head. And Sailor Moon is the same, I just do not like the concept of long drawn-out transformation sequences and then every enemy dies after the same attack. At least Ronin Warriors (which is of the same style) saves itself by being an endless source of Yaoi, which I find to be absolutely hilarious.

Ronin Warriors is an endless source of yaoi, yes.. but it's only spawned *more* yaoi than Gundam Wing because it's been around longer.. ^_~

Well Gundam Wing is kind of a no-brainer, and although most of the girls I know who write slash and draw Yaoi prefer the GW characters to any other series(cept for one who's obsessed with doing Cowboy Bebop stuff), Ronin Warriors is a little less obvious and most of it that I've seen is written better then most GW.

Well Duo is seen with Hilde atthe end of Endless Waltz, so he is ruled out, but he is more of a target for slash because of it.

Like I just said in the thread above: Cowboy Bebop had rarely any big-eyes huge mouths, etc. And it portrayed emotion quite well.

There's more to emotion then showing 'fear' as a HUGE MASSIVE DROP on the side of their head. If you can't show emotion through your script, your drawings, and the setting by getting the viewer INTO THE SERIES, and you have to resort to crap like huge eyes etc., then you're a failure. Plain and simple.

1) Rediculous kung-fu in a modern environment. Please, doesn't anyone pack heat when half-naked man #12 starts getting his Real Utlimate Power on?

3) Perverted animators drawing 20 minute long sex scenes.
