Helpless Inside The Onos' Belly

I've been playing v.2 for a while now on a active server called Freaks Unleashed. I've tried to post this in the suggestions area but it's closed so.

In version 2 I've been eaten quite a few times by Onos' at different times of the game, I'd usually damage the Onos but as a common strategy the aliens would have more than one Onos and have them stick together and I'd eventually get eaten. Well I don't think I'm the only one that this has happened to and it will keep happening. One thing that has come up multiple times is people saying that would should be able to attack the Onos from the inside but with little damage helping out our comrades on the outside. I personnally think that we should be able to knife from the inside.

Another thing that a good portion of the players find unfair is the redemption. I like it my self and have done it but not on purpose is eating a guy and getting redeemed to the hive but then I'll go back and start fighting again. Though some others dont do this they'll go through with redemption and eat a guy then get redeemed to the hive and wait untill the guy is swallowed!

One more thing before I post is people will do nothing at the beginning and save for onos (attack and attack earning money) and then rush the marine start as Onos as by this time some one has already built the hive and it has finished and the game is over in less than 6 minutes.

On the footnote I don't know if it's been suggested or not but since v1.4 for the aliens alot of people have wanted the ability to give up their minerals to another alien player so he/she could build a defense or hive or evolve.

Could their be something done for atleast the top 2 suggestions?

Redeeming (!) oni (!) are being treaked in beta patches so they might not be able to redeem (!) while digesting in later versions.

All other oni complaints can be forced by jetpacks and teamwork.

Have common sense please. If you are an onos would you really use devour if you were guarenteed to take a good amount of damage?

Also, you say you wish you could donate res, but you also complain about onos showing up so early...If you could donate res, 3 people donate their starting res to one person, onos in <10 seconds.

depends...if it's a heavy i'm going to devour, then yes i'll risk taking a lot of damage in order to devour him. otherwise i just gore them 2 or 3 times and walk out

The suggestion forum is closed for a reason .

Anyhow, charging as an onos and redeeming after eating someone is a llama tactic which, while I'd like to see it disabled, is far less efficient than just beating the crap out of everything with other upgrades.

[as far as 'fixing' it, there's no need to penalize people for digesting when you can just have 'em cough up the marine when they redeem.]

Well the only thing I would like is to be able to see the outside of the onos while being digested so its not as boring inside. But i don't thing it would be good because it would reveal their strategy.

I hear the qoute alot "you should be able to hurt onos when being devoured" thats just stupid

    Think of it like this
    I.E

    you eat a insect, k
the insect won't attack you as IT IS BEING DIGESTED by your stomach acids with would kill it.

Now use the onos, Onos eats you and devours you in one of its 4 stomachs, the acid would dissovle your gun and whatever touches it I.E hands you can't attack, and you be dead

Yay thats the end of "you SHOULD be able to attack onos when being devoured" BUT you can't

but he doesn't digest your gun. when he finishes digesting you the marine pops out (magically out of no apparent orifice) along with his gun which can be picked up. a more plausible explanation would be that you can't do anything because his stomach muscles are constricting you

Still, devour is supposed to be a useful ability. It's already penalized by moving slower (and for a non-celerity Onos, that's really slow). If you can knife inside the Onos, that's more than thirty points of damage a second. Consider how long it takes to digest a healthy rine, this could result in quite a few Onos dying from eating a vanilla marine, which is NOT the point. Redemption is being nerfed, so calm down.
On another note, redemption is also one of the reasons why it takes so long to crack the turret-filled marine bases in the endgame. The Onos runs in, devours a rine, is redeemed away and is out of the fight for quite a while. What he SHOULD do is run in, kill a turret, run out, regen back to health, repeat. If the rines start blasting him with shotguns or hmgs, stomp and devour. Marines can't keep up with this.

doh! sorry to mention one thing about the donating the resources to other aliens others have also said that the alien team shouldn't be able to get the onos until after 10 or so minutes. This is because a player gets the 1 to 3 resources per each kill well some players go out and and attack and attack and are good and get 100 minerals in 2 or threee minutes from just killing marines then go onos.

You'd still be able to pull the trigger, but you may not be able to aim the gun.

Dude in 10 min most marine teams are usually stocking up on HA, Also, skulks are usually VERY easy prey if you can aim.

Jetpacks are best way to deal with onos (althrough in 2.0 they can barely hold me in air compared to 1.0x). When onos is running at you, just go in air and fly to some safe position or some way from the onos and while doing all this, shoot at it.

Nerfing isnt the answer, using your brain is.

Okay, here comes an onos, so what are you gonna do? run at him shooting? just stand there shooting at him?

you do realize that the ono's devour often does NOT work, and it sucks up alot of energy to keep attempting to devour, so how do we defeat devour?

    1. Dont rambo, come on this is basic stuff, you should be with the group when out wandering around the map, when in a group, the onos is really more likely to charge or gore, looking for quick elimination of enemys.

    2. see onos? look for things to hide behind, or in, vents work if you are far enough inside them, also, if you have a comm chair, or TF nearby, stand a little bit behind that, so the onos has to come around or over it.
I've seen alot of onii who dont jump at all, so you can play ring around the res with them til they redeem.

    3. stop whining about being bored inside the onos if you do get devoured.
oh big deal, you got taken out of the action for 30 seconds, its not like a small break is going to send you into shock.

and yeah I've been devoured by onii at full HP before, yes it does take a while before you get out, but you should just sit back and get a drink and a sammich, not start screaming "k1ll this f46 0n0!111" and being all stressed the hell out.

The whole point with Devour is to effectivly remove a player for a short time
Getting damage from that doesn't seemn effective to me
  • mojojojomojojojo Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2017Members
What would be the point of attacking from inside the Onos? Wouldn't repeatedly hitting the attack button be as dull as not being able to do anything?

I think be able to see might be a better idea, just to make it less boring. Don't think it would really reveal that much strategy either.

Incidently, it is worth noting when an onos redeems with a marine inside them you can see everything around the onos by pressing 'c' (or the map). Quite useful as it told me what all the aliens were and where they were

how about a 20% chance to puke the marine out before he's digested?

You're inside it's stomach, you're completely surrounded by stomach and various other body bits. Onii have been nerfed big time, a group of 3 marines with some damage upgrades should be able to take out an onos (if the onos had to close a distance gap) I reccomend a shot gun or 2 or some other upgraded wepons and an onos will have to run away quickly. If he devours one of your players that makes it easier because he looses alot of speed and you can dodge it while your team takes it down. You are not supposed to rambo an onos even with ha/hmg

Realistically it is not like you have a whole basketball court in there to jump around and knife in. You're probably smothered like a gnu being eaten by an anaconda.

That takes care of the "I should be able to" argument from a "realism" viewpoint, the gameplay viewpoint is rather obvious.

I would really love to see HLTV while I'm digesting. It's not that boring anymore. (and no you can't see the alien strategy.)

dont have a problem with devour or redemption

is it cheesy? maybe but i seen turret farms which can kill a carapaced onos with celerity in under 3 seconds. Without redemp the game would drag on.

i also seen multiple GLs being used to stalemate games, should that be nerfed also?

in the end Aliens work together, aliens win, Marines work together, marines win. About the main whining i seen so far is from Rambo marines who want their FlightPack and Hmgs to rambo hives again..
  • MasterEvilAceMasterEvilAce Join Date: 2002-11-29 Member: 10268Members, Reinforced - Shadow
in most games, marines don't have HA or JP... sometimes HA, but never both...

so onos are pretty much unstoppable i guess (since jetpacks are supposed to be the counter... :/ )

    I'd suggest combining two ideas..

    1) If an onos redeems, the marine falls out of the onos

    2) the marine can knife from the inside, causing some damage

thus, you can attack the onos, and if the onos doesn't heal, then he might eventually redeem, causing you to be freed (with low health)

this could also help your teammates, a bit, to take out the onos.
