    There is a bug in the hl server code.
    you can send some special data packet to any hl server causing an infinite-loop-crash.
    many people mailed valve to fix it, but it aint fixed till 2 halflife patches.

    So some ppl created an exe to demonstrate (and to find ways to block it, without sucess).
    All you need is this exe and a hl server ip to crash the server.
    You dont even need HL.

    any attack that causes a server to crash is illegal and can be persected if they so desire

    but admin_ban IP wonid and subnet ought to do the trick...

    this was my server and it wasnt from the HLDS bof, i have that patched but i am still running the older version. the problem has to do with the spectator BOF which voogru's metamod plugin apparently fixed.
