Turret Woes

<div class="IPBDescription">How to?</div> I've seen a lot of commanders go from turret farming to non-turret because of gorges. Now I see something worse. A couple commanders insist on making roughly 40 turrets in base (I am not kidding.) And about 10 per res nozzle they secure. The turrets are aquired slowly through the game because I realize 400 res is alot to be dealing with. For the most part I saw this as "Were dead, lets drag this out" Now its becomming a winning strat to keep the enemy throwing itself into you for resources. Its lame. Its also undefeatable. Once you aquire the res for that much turret spam, their affording HA for 16 players. Pretty much game over for the aliens. No way in, 1 way out, and thats death. I just don't understand how aliens get limits on their offense chambers, and the marines can farm them like cotton. (Not the OCs...turrets) Explain to me please because I'm getting <b><i>VERY</i></b>[I] Frustrated with this.

    If you're able to stop the marines from expanding and as aliens you expand enough to where gorges have bilebomb (with a movement/defense chamber combo when you get to the 2nd hive) i've found that if you team up with a lerk the turrets will get leveled easily with adrenaline + gorge.

    Yep i know exactly what you are talking about, and i think its the most stupid llamaish thing you can do. I mean you have your backs to the wall, one res node, no chance of winning, so you decide to build a hojillion turrets to extend the game by 2 hours? This has happened to me at lest 2 times today. The first time i convinced him to recycle everything and give us all heavy weapons. The second time we ejected him someone else jumped int he chair and recycled all the turrets and gave out heavy weapons.

    Its alot funner to lose going down shooting instead of crouched in the corner letting your turrets redeem that onos 5 times in a row.

    Actually I just commanded a game, and this is how we won.

    But let me explain before you go ranging on your "Panic! nooby key." I just started commanding. Nope, I never commanded in 1.04. So this was my first full game. Usually I get ejected or taunted so much I just leave. I admit I suck donkey nuts at commander. I whored turrets. I had like 100 in base. We saved up res, for 10 people, to go HA, GL, HMG. And well, it worked. Not much I can say. I guess this is a "nooby" thing to do. But if I was in your position I'd probably be upset about the whole situation myself. This just goes to show you that, the aliens have to act fast in order to win, or the marines just **** up resources, and save up until it's total chaos.

    Stop whining about loosing as aliens how its supposed to be.
    It happens more and more, and soon marines might even win one of tree games <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    the only problem is placing 80urets an one single place giving overflow errors for aliens.

    so far i have found that with 2.0 large a large number of turrets is nessasary because the marriens have to stick together and there fore cant be at all the key locations at once, but turrets can and having enoughof them willl makes som wandering alien think twice about attacking an empty outpost. The biggest problem i find is with lag, for example i wasplaying to day on redphive -1- and at the start of the match my ping < 100. but once the comm started spaming turrets my pig shot up to over 500 with spicks over 1000.

    I just looooove the commander that puts up a turretfarm, then fails to cover every side of his precious tf..
    many times it is possible to rush past turretfire, especially with celerity, and sneak in to the billion dollar hole..

    it really becomes interesting if that same com forgot marines have something called phase tech <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    i agree that it sucks when commanders farm up their base after they are 3 res nodes behind the aliens (as said above, its f***ing stupid to draw out such an uneventful round out as long as you can possibly muster) but i disagree that it can be a way to win for the marines. after they are boxed in like that with no res nodes and their primary source of incoming is shooting down some of the xeno missiles the round is over. the victor is decided and the most common way for the next round to start is people quitting from a team to the point of 4 player difference.

    i think its pathetic for rounds to end this way, when a marine commander makes little attempt to win and just farms at their spawns....im tempted to scream and yell but people will still do it.

    I think turrets should do double the damage but be limited to 8 / area like OC. Higher lifeforms could still charge them but they would keep skulks/lerks and 1hive gorges at bay which is what they are for. Maybe increase their cost to 15 too. Turret spamming is an issue not only because of the lameness but because of performance. Pings, FPS, overflows and server crashes every one of them is affected/generated by a turret spamming comm.

    I've held off aliens for nearly 4 hours on Mineshaft as an experiment now. Sure you might be proud when you finally manage to kill my ELECTRIFIED turret factory, but you won't have got the other 3 :/

    Sure, stick all yer creds in electrifying 3 TF's (which also have to be paid for)

    That less money for turrets, making it easier to destroy TF's with Gorge..
    There ARE commanders that cover all the angles, but they are few and far between..

    Take out the marine res nodes. Eventually they'll get 1 res per tick (not including kills), then just bilebomb/genocide away. Works everytime so far I've seen farms.

    Bah, they're all amateurs. I place 40 turrets and 5 Turret factories so my turrets never go offline!!! MUWAHAHAHAHA!

    You need a mixed team to take out turret farms. I don't care if your whole team is Onos, because that won't do it. Lerks with umbra, gorges with bile bomb, and Onos to keep marines from bothering your lerks/gorges. Remember, bile bomb has a splash radius. You don't need to see the turret to hit it.

    AND DO NOT TAKE REDEMPTION AS AN ONOS!!!!!!!!!! You aren't helping your team when you do that, especially if you're winning.

    Actually, that was just boredom. I had something like 1000+ res inevitably. I STOPPED building turrets after about an hour because I was afraid of crashing the server <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yeah, when you encounter one, it is the challenge of your life as an alien.
