Mechanics Of Upgrades

<div class="IPBDescription">I read the pop-ups, but I need MORE</div> I can read the little pop-ups about various skills and upgrades, but what do they do in the greater scheme of things? I'll be specific:

Carapice/marine armor upgrades: the manual says, for example, level 3 regular marine armor has 110 points and takes 60% of damage. does that mean that if you're at full armor and full health and are hit with a strength 100 attack, your armor will take 60 points of damage and your health 40 points?

Redemption: is it a % chance you'll be brought back to life, based on level of the upgrade? or does it depend on how brutally you were attacked? what are the % redemption chances, if they're pure percents?

cloaking: everyone loves it, but how exactly does it work? in 2.0, does each upgrade level make you cloak better, or just faster? does it ever work while moving?

scent of fear: this seems underused -- at level 3, it looks like you can see every marine as though he was parasited. can you really see unhurt marines, or was I just assuming hurt ones were unhurt? what do the level increases on this upgrade do? if you can use it to pinpoint the location of all marines, is there any point to ever using pheromones?

distress beacon: what exactly does this do? not so much an upgrade, but I still dunno <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

I guess that's enough for now. if even half of these get answered, I'll be happy. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> thanks for putting up with us newbies. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif'><!--endemo-->

Carapace: Makes the armor number larger, thus you can take a few more hits before being killed.

Weapon upgrades: Increases power of weapons so you can take something out in less shots. Not sure on percentages but I think its by 10%

Redemption: Makes you return to hive. Ok, this is hard to explain. At lvl1 redemption lets say you get redeemed back to the hive when you hit 10 health. At lvl2 its 20. Lvl3 its 30, so your chance of gettin redeemed increases with each level. Of course those health numbers are just an example.

Cloaking: Stand still for about 3 seconds and with each upgraded level it makes you more invisible. You can only move cloaked if you are in the range of a sensory chamber itself.

Scent of Fear: You see every marine on your hivesight. Each level increases range. You see hurt/unhurt marines. This is THE most used ability btw... not underused at all. Pheromones is fairly useless at this point unless you only have like lvl1.

Distress Beacon: Used when you don't have any/not enough ips when you are being attacked. Brings back all marines to life at one time. Not an upgrade. Takes 5 seconds to activate with an audible alarm (cant miss it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->).

As long as the newbies ask and don't be mean about it, I'm glad to help <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

All damage absorbed by armor is halved before being applied, so that would be 30 damage to armor and 40 damage to health.

It also increases the percentage of damage absorbed by the armor.

Unless 2.0 changed this, (in 1.04) the higher the level, the faster you cloak. so like, you're 90%? cloaked 5 seconds after you STOP MOVING... level 2= 4 seconds.. level1 = 3 seconds

    or something like that.
I don't believe they changed it back to pre 1.04 where it was an increase in % cloaked.

It also increases how much your existing armour protects you by.

Not quite. The cloaking upgrade makes you approximately 90% invisible at every level, higher levels make you cloak faster. The sensory chamber cloaking makes you 100% invisible while stationary, and slightly visible while moving. You do not need the cloaking upgrade to be cloaked by a sensory chamber.

It respawns all dead marines at the original marine start. This can be very helpful if you've relocated to somewhere else; the beacon will spawn the team out of trouble.

You don't need to. The do automatically, up to a maximum of level three, one per chamber of that type which is still alive.

when the gorge builds another chamber, your upgrade will increase by 1 lvl, up to a max of lvl 3. as scorpion says, you dont need to do anything to get them up.

i always get SOF, each lvl increases the range. If you were on a space station with loads of hungy aliens waiting to rip your throat out, wouldnt you be afraid?
