2.0 Compatable.

What will be?
I was wondering will 1.04 custom maps be compatable with 2.0, or are there significant changes to the way maps have to be made?

Also what about pluggins? I'm not planning on using any but some of the chat variable ones are useful... will they need to be updated ?

oops - ok, sorry about the maps question.

The pluggins that I think will still be useful are the Chatvariables one (the one where a player can bind a key to "say I have Health : %h, armour : %a, Location : %l" and the one where a Commander or Gorges teamchats are preceded with [Comm] or [Gorge] (ok perhaps it wont matter so much who the gorge is and we dont plan on adding these right away but I was wondering if they are likely to work ?

I have a serious 2.0 compatability question. Can it be installed with CS retail without using the ghost hl.exe file? I'm not a CSRetail person, but I can imagine what a pain it is for some people not to know how to install it properly.

Yes. And DOD 1.0 retail too.

Not to be a pedantic jerk about it, but NS installed just fine for about 99% of all CS users in the 1.0 version as well; just not if they:

    1. Warezed CS
    2. Copied CS from another computer without correctly installing it via setup
    3. Had certain late model USA CS retail releases
    4. Had certain unknown version European CS retail releases

However, to increase my jerkitude, the server installs are ZIP/TAR, not installers. Only the client install checked validity of the engine via code - a server op was expected to be intelligent enough not to need that. So your question is in the wrong forum

I hoped you'd be the first to respond MonsE. This should maybe be stickied for the large number of retail owners to be informed of.

Hmmm... good point. I'll make sure we have big advertising on the downloads sites that welcome HL retail, CS retail, and DOD retail players back into the fold. I don't want anyone who missed out last time to miss out again, no matter how few...

    /me makes note

    GG, thanks.

I'm im not completely wrong (see http://exclusives.halflife.org/exlpic265.jpg ) the %l location stuff is already built into NS2.0 . Maybe others are as well, haven't read anything about it that I can recall.

Hmm.... while on the subject, I wonder if NS will install onto Blue Shift with the dummy executable as well. You never see that many people mention it, and I would assume there's no reason it shouldn't, since it is a stand-alone installation, including the HL engine.

I'll have to dig up my Blue Shift and check some time, I guess. Maybe it might have a different directory structure or something, but I doubt it.

You never see many people mentioning it, guess it wasn't all that popular, considering it was originally designed as an 'extra' feature on the unreleased Dreamcast version of Half-Life, and wasn't really a full length expansion. Hey, it came with the Opposing Force expansion (single and multiplayer), that was good enough for me.

a year or two ago i had tried to install counter-strike on top of a Blue Shift install, and could not get it to work. (did not know of any "dummy executables" at the time.) HOWEVER, i did discover that the Blue Shift CD-Key works great as a Half-Life CD-Key, so if you own this title then you've got an extra wonID you can use if needed...
